Give Thanks

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story… – (Psalm 107:2a, NIV)

Everyone the Lord has saved should repeat that word of thanks. – (Psalm 107:2a, ERV)

Let all those redeemed by the Eternal – those rescued from times of deep trouble – join in giving thanks. – (Psalm 107:2, VOICE)

All of us who know God and have a relationship with Him, have stories of His goodness and faithfulness to tell. We all have challenges, trials, and struggles, yet when we know our Savior, we know help and hope, strength and peace, even in times where such things do not make sense. Over the weekend, the twins and I drove a couple hundred miles to go and spend time with my mom for her birthday. She did not know they were coming along, and was beyond blessed and surprised at their presence. We had an incredible weekend together, and watching the joy my mom felt was mirrored in my own heart. After a bad fall, a broken hip and surgery, it was especially good to see mom back to herself and able to get out and able to transfer well to get in and out of the car to go on adventures. Besides doctor visits, it was the first time she had really gotten to get out and shop since surgery and recovery. We were able to dine out and explore the area, and I don’t think the smile left her face the entire time we were together. Even with a minor scare, God provided joy and laughter as we waited for the all clear to be on our way again. Though mom’s mobility is still impacted by the stroke, her hip injury is no longer a factor, and the accounts of His goodness and faithfulness are too numerous to list. For my kids, it was a reminder of the joy found in spending time together, as they have been unable to take enough time off from work to make the long drive to see her for over a year. Having experienced the goodness of our visit, they are now planning on requesting time off and scheduling weekend trips to see Mom. God is good, and the blessing of time together with family and loved ones grant us glimpses of heaven here on earth. May we ever give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and grace, and share of His faithfulness forever.

The goodness of God,

our story to tell;

of kindness and grace,

and how He loves well.

His heart is for us,

with each beat we know;

our lives have purpose,

and in Him we grow.

His love rises up,

to overflowing;

as we recognize,

good is love showing.

Lord, help us to see,

and know in our heart;

all good comes from You,

for love is Your art.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You redeem us and You bring beauty from ashes in our lives. Thank You for the gift of family. Forgive us for the times that we neglect to give You praise for Your goodness and presence, even when our circumstances are not. Teach us to seek You and recognize Your loving presence in all things, for You never leave us nor forsake us. Show us how to love those around us well, so that others may see Your heart for them too. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we praise You for Your goodness and love, and thank You for Your abundant outpouring of grace as we walk out our days. Amen.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. – 1 Chronicles 16:34

Thankful for Faithful Love

Let them give thanks to the Lord for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity. – (Psalm 107:8, HCSB)

Thank the Lord for His faithful love and for the amazing things He does for people. – (Psalm 107:8, ERV)

May they erupt with praise and give thanks to the Eternal in honor of His loyal love and all the wonders He has performed for humankind! – (Psalm 107:8, VOICE)

Today in particular, I am thankful to the Lord in His faithful love, for providing me the one that my heart needed. My Viking is not necessarily who I would have imagined, yet he is everything my heart is grateful for. God knows our hearts and what we need, and loves to bless us. One of my greatest blessings has been found in my spouse. He is loving and kind, protective and generous, grit and grace, strength and gentleness, and the one that has captured my heart in a way that I never knew was possible. On his birthday, I am especially grateful that God brought him into the world to be raised by his mom. She taught him the value of hard work and loyalty, has exemplified goodness and grace, balanced with discipline, and loves her kids fiercely in a way that has helped each of them to flourish in adulthood. God has done amazing things in and through each of them. May we ever praise God and give Him thanks for the loyal love He provides to us and the people whom He places in our lives to make His heart tangible.

All thanks be to God,

For goodness and grace;

The blessings He gives,

When we give Him space.

With hearts wide open,

To trust in His love;

We discover more,

Beyond and above.

God blesses our hearts,

As He does provide;

Every good gift,

Tangible inside.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are faithful forever and You know what we need. Thank You that You bless us beyond what we could have imagined on our own, and You bring goodness and grace into our lives that make Your love tangible. Forgive us for the times that we have wondered what could come of the things before us, for You bring beauty and blessing from the difficult things in our lives. Thank You for the gift of my Viking, as he has shown me more of You as he loves me well. Show me how to love and care for those around me in ways that make Your heart known. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we praise You and thank You for the ways that You bless us all with Your loyal love. Amen.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. – 1 Chronicles 16:34

Christmas Miracles

They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the feeding trough. After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them. – (Luke 2:16-19, HCSB)

So they went running and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the feeding box. When they saw the baby, they told what the angels said about this child. Everyone was surprised when they heard what the shepherds told them. Mary continued to think about these things, trying to understand them. – (Luke 2:16-19, ERV)

So they hurried off and found their way to Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in a feeding trough. Upon seeing this miraculous sign, the shepherds recounted what had just happened. Everyone who heard the shepherds’ story was astonished by what they were told. But Mary treasured all these things in her heart and often pondered what they meant. – (Luke 2:16-19, TPT)

Christmas miracles are an actual reality. This morning, my own miracle was sleeping in until 6:00am. We have dear friends who waited for years for the miracle of a child of their own. On Christmas Eve one year ago, they had their own son, born as an incredible gift to them on the mother’s own birthday. As I have watched the beauty of this blessing in their lives and recall the joy and wonder in the arrival of my own babies, I cannot help but understand all that Mary must have pondered as she was a part of this miracle that had been foretold and had now arrived. There are miracles all around us, if only we take the time to look and see. The wonder of a newborn baby, the stars placed intentionally in the sky… So many things that point to the power of the loving Savior that became God with us. May we pause and ponder the miracles all around us, and give thanks for the greatest miracle ever given. Merry Christmas and may we all come to adore Him today and forever.

This blessed season,

Created with joy;

As God, the Father,

Sent us His own boy.

Born in a manger,

Angels did proclaim;

The Lord’s arrival,

On that very day.

Miraculous birth,

God’s very own Son;

Sent to save us all,

The Most Holy One.

O what a wonder,

For Mary to see;

What had been promised,

Had now come to be.

Let’s look in wonder,

And give the Lord praise;

All that He has done,

Throughout all our days.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible miracle of Christmas. Thank You for the miracles You continue to do in and around us. Forgive us for neglecting to notice the work of Your hand, for all that exists is because of Your great love. Teach us to pause and ponder all that You have done and the unending love that You lavish upon us. Show us how to love those around us as You do. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we praise You for Christmas miracles, and for the miraculous You continue to do every day that we draw breath. Amen.

Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests. – Luke 2:14

Blessings of Grace and Love

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. – (2 Corinthians 13:14, NIV)

I pray that you will enjoy the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. – (2 Corinthians 13:14, ERV)

The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you. – (2 Corinthians 13:14, MSG)

This is my hope and prayer for all, and especially to my brother-in-love and sister today, as we celebrate him on his birthday. Though this day looks far different than anyone might have imagined, it is good, and holds time to celebrate and appreciate the blessings beheld in who God has created him to be. For the family and for mom, life has changed dramatically. Adjusting to life away from all that she knows is challenging for mom; and adapting, supporting and caring well for mom brings a change requiring adjustment for all. My prayer is that God’s grace and love and fellowship will flood each member of the household, providing for each need, both spoken and unsaid, as they navigate the ongoing road of recovery together. The love is great, as they all are loving incredibly well, and His strength is sustaining each family member as they forge forward in this fight. May God’s grace be present with us, one and all, and may it be an extraordinary new year of blessing for Scott and the family.

The grace of the Lord, img_2019-09-21_10-29-504974735689341613265.jpg

Be with each of you;

May also His love,

Refresh and renew.

Let time spent with Him,

Fill our hearts again;

So we may love well,

Through His grace attained.

Be blessed with goodness,

Rest well in His grace;

All glory to God,

For His loving ways.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the tremendous blessing of family. Thank You for the gift of those that You give to us through our loved ones. Thank You that You hear our prayers to bless and keep those we lift before You. Forgive us for not admonishing those You give as gifts to us in our lives nearly often enough. Show us how to love others in ways that refresh, renew and bless with the same grace that You give to each of us. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we lift others up and ask You to make them acutely aware of Your grace, love and fellowship. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. – Numbers 6:24-26

Our Greatest Blessings

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him. – (Psalm 127:3, NIV)

Children are a gift from God; they are His reward. – (Psalm 127:3, TLB)

Children are God’s love-gift; they are heaven’s generous reward. – (Psalm 127:3, TPT)

My husband and I are abundantly blessed with three amazing boys between us. Earlier this month, the eldest, had his 19th birthday while I was still in Wenatchee with my mom. Upon my return, I apologized for having missed his birthday, and let him know that we would love to celebrate him still. He grinned and claimed that it wasn’t a big deal, yet I knew that he was delighted to be remembered. As he and I spoke about possibilities, we determined that a weekend in Vancouver, BC, would be wonderful. He, in his nineteen years, has never been out of the country, and has an enhanced driver’s license, so he is ready to go. Today, the weekend has finally arrived, and we are merely waiting for our hard-working young man to return home from work (he works graveyard shift) to begin our adventure. Not only is it a delight to celebrate this gift from God, but it is a joy to anticipate watching in wonder, as he takes in all things new. It never ceases to amaze me how blessed the giver ends up feeling in the process of anticipating and carrying out a planned adventure of blessings. I imagine it is but a glimpse of how God feels, as He blesses us with good things. He sees our needs and the desires of our hearts, and then orchestrates ways to surprise and delight us; His sons and daughters. May we ever give thanks to the Lord for the incredible gift of children that we have been given, for they truly are a treasure from heaven.

Our greatest blessings, img_2019-08-23_06-36-406737837867289030307.jpg

Come to us, so small;

They capture our hearts,

Not just part, but all.

Each milestone achieved,

Brings joy and delight;

Every tear shed,

Keeps us up at night.

With all that we are,

We love, hope and dream;

For every good gift,

To show what love means.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift and blessings that are found in our children. Thank You for the opportunity to celebrate and bless them, individually, so that they might gain a glimpse of how You see them. Forgive us for the times that we grow weary and frustrated with the gifts. Teach us to treasure our children and to show them the way to love like You. Help us to love those around us with a love like Yours. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we give You all of our gratitude for the gift You have given us in our children. Amen.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. – 1 Chronicles 16:34

Gratitude in All

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. – (Colossians 3:17, NIV)

Everything you say and everything you do should be done for Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus. – (Colossians 3:17, ERV)

Surely, no matter what you are doing (speaking, writing, or working), do it all in the name of Jesus our Master, sending thanks through Him to God our Father. – (Colossians 3:17, VOICE)

There is nothing quite so clear at reminding one of gratitude for the gifts they have been given, like an extended time away. For me, after such a long stretch away from my husband and children to care for my mom, I find myself appreciating and enjoying even the most mundane of tasks together. Yesterday, my Viking and I had several errands to run. It was a day off for him, and one of the days I have remaining before I have to be back in my classroom or on campus for back-to-school meetings and such. We were able to check off each of the items on our list, and ended with taking one of our vehicles to get an oil change. Though it was quite a wait, we were in it together, and it was far preferred over him having to do the work himself on his day off. Our day ended with dinner as a family together at home. I am beyond grateful for the blessings bestowed upon me both here in my home and through the ongoing care my mom is receiving with my sister. God is good, and to Him be all glory and praise.

Yesterday, I didn’t actually have the opportunity to speak with mom. I know that the day was going to be full, as she was going to have Terry (in-home care provider) with her during the day, and then a gal whom my sister and family have known for quite some time was going to spend the afternoon and evening with mom, as Meg and family were heading to their company picnic, and mom determined that she would prefer not attend.  I will be eager to catch up with her this morning to hear how it all went, and tomorrow is an especially significant day, as it will be mom’s 70th birthday. 😊

May we each do everything unto the Lord, giving Him thanks for all that He has done.

In everything,

08161914493304527589765058444.jpg

A bit of silliness at the oil change stop. ❤

May we choose give praise;

With a grateful heart,

Give thanks all our days.

For God in His grace,

Has given so much;

Strength in our weakness,

His powerful touch.

Lord, help us choose well,

In word, thought and deed;

May we love like You,

Help meet other’s needs.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for goodness and grace. Thank You for the love and blessings that You continue to bestow upon us with Your presence. Forgive us for the times that we neglect to honor You with our words, thoughts or deeds. Teach us to fix our minds and hearts on You, so that all that we do brings glory to You. Show us how to love those around us in a way that demonstrates Your love in tangible and practical ways. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we honor and praise You with all that we say and do. Amen.

Reasons to Praise

I will praise You, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever. – (Psalm 86:12, NIV)

O Lord, my God! I praise You with all that I am. I will rightly honor Your great name forever. – (Psalm 86:12, VOICE)

With all my heart and passion, I will thank You, my God! I will give glory to Your name, always and forever! – (Psalm 86:12, TPT)

My heart is overflowing with reasons to praise. Yesterday, the day began with time seated on our couch, in our living room at home, with my husband beside me, as I did my devotions and writing. The morning followed with a joyful return to my church family after more than three months away, and the remainder of the day was spent thoroughly enjoying the ordinary errands that Sundays hold, along with a few bonus stops to celebrate Mark for his birthday. The day concluded with a great visit, seated around the fire pit at our best friends’ home.

Meanwhile, mom, Megan and Scott were making their way to Oregon. Each update that I received from my sister was excellent, as all of mom’s concerns about the long journey proved to be unnecessary. Mom did great, and took turns riding with each Megan and Scott. The trio safely arrived in Albany by mid-afternoon. I imagine the remainder of the day was spent enjoying time with my nephews, unpacking, and settling in. For all these things and so much more, we give glory to God forever.

Faithful is our God, img_2019-08-12_07-16-582256281050884293021.jpg

In everything;

He sees and He hears,

His goodness He brings.

Even in trials,

His presence is near;

His love evident,

And grace is made clear.

All praise unto God,

All glory, always;

Hope to ever trust,

For all of our days.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us and meeting us where we are. Thank You that You lead us and take us the direction that You intend for us to go. Forgive us for our fears of the unknown that lie before us. Teach us to trust You more, as You are faithful forever. Show us how to love those around us in a way that grants hope, peace and trust in the good that lies ahead. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we praise You with all that we are, forever. Amen.

I will sing the Lord’s praise, for He has been good to me. – Psalm 13:6

Mindful of Miracles

Though this morning’s reading includes chapters in Genesis, a Psalm and Luke 19, I find it difficult to get past my own gratitude on this day, as I remember twelve years ago.  Part of what I’m meant to do this year, is to look for the miracles all around me; and twelve years ago, on this very day, a most marvelous miracle occurred.  Our beautiful baby boys were born.  Five weeks ahead of schedule, so their debut was quite unexpected so soon, yet arrive, they did.

Baby Adventurous

Baby Adventurous

The first miracle was that my water broke, despite the time being so early.  As it turned out, there was twin-to-twin transfusion, or as I explain to the boys – Cautious was hogging the goods, and Adventurous was going hungry.  Had I gone full-term, my beautiful, insightful, tender-hearted Adventurous, would not likely have lived.

Baby Cautious

Baby Cautious

Upon their blessed arrival, I barely caught a glimpse of either boy, as they were quickly whisked away to be assessed and cared for.  The second miracle, that despite the myriad of possible complications, each boy only needed oxygen and time to grow.  Wee little lads they were, as Adventurous was 3 lbs 15 oz, and Cautious was not quite as tiny at 5 lbs 5.5 oz.

Spending nearly five weeks in the hospital, turned out to be another miracle in and of itself, as the boys and I were able to room together in Pediatrics after week two.  I was given round-the-clock assistance and training as to how to care for and manage twins, and help in how to best mother my premature babies.

Boys get to go home

Most twins who are born prematurely and on oxygen, don’t go home at the same time.  My prayer from the get go, was that they would.  Yet another miracle, my tiny wonders were weaned from their oxygen within hours of one another!  And, believe it or not, my little firstborn, Adventurous, was the first one weaned.

Despite their small start, today, this delightful duo is anything but small.  Our magnificent miracles are now larger than me, and are projected to pass even their father (who is not a dainty man).  Happy Birthday Boys!  I am so very proud of the young men that you have become!

Miracles are found,Birthday Boys then and now

wherever you are;

just take in the view,

you’ll need not look far.

The eyes of a child,

the touch of a hand;

the warmth of a smile,

all God’s loving plan.

Give thanks to the Lord,

He who gives us all;

Miracle Maker,

He hears every call.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the miracles all around us.  Thank You for the blessings that You provide us through family.  Thank You for allowing me to be the mother of our boys, and for trusting them in my care.  Thank You for the miracles that You continue to provide, as we live life.  Forgive us for our shortcomings in the roles that You have placed us in, and please show us how to live and love as You are calling us to do.  Help us to be ever aware of the miraculous around us, and may our gratitude be evident in all that we say and do.  May we love others as we are loved by You, and may many come to know You as their personal Savior, soon.  Thank You is not nearly enough for all of the ways that You love and bless us so well.  May we honor You in all.  Amen.

“We will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.” – Psalm 145:7
