Love Provides

Though the Lord is exalted, He looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, He sees them from afar. – (Psalm 138:6, NIV)

The Lord has the highest place above all others, but He still cares for the humble. Even from there, so high above, He knows what the proud do. – (Psalm 138:6, ERV)

Although He is greatest of all, He is attentive to the needy and keeps His distance from the proud and pompous. – (Psalm 138:6, VOICE)

God is high and lifted up, yet He cares for us beyond what we could ever hope or imagine. When we pause to recognize that He is the Creator of all, it reminds us that we are nothing without Him. However, when people choose to be proud, He leaves them to their own devices. We must acknowledge our need for God, for it is in humility that we recognize the greatness of who He is and how He loves us all. May we ever love the Lord with all that we are, and seek Him to show us how to care for others as He does.

With grace and mercy,

the Lord God above;

cares for the seeking,

and floods us with love.

The Lord’s love provides,

all that we might need;

help, hope, and kindness,

as we let Him lead.

Lead us, Lord Jesus,

to walk in Your way;

in all that we do,

and all that we say.

Help us come humbly,

for all comes from You;

our Savior and King,

the Light and the Truth.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that as we seek You, You meet us and care for us. Thank You that You show us what is good when we ask You. Forgive us for the times that we have lacked humility or have become proud when all credit goes to You. Show us how to walk in the goodness of Your grace with gratitude for who You are and how You love. Lead us to love and care for those around us as You do. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we praise You for who You are and ever seek You to lead us in all things. Amen,

The whole earth is filled with awe at Your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, You call forth songs of joy. – Psalm 65:8

Listen and Learn

Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge. – (Proverbs 23:12, NIV)

Pay close attention to the teaching that corrects you, and open your heart to every word of instruction. – (Proverbs 23:12, TPT)

Develop a disciplined life. Be attentive so you can be well informed. – (Proverbs 23:12, VOICE)

The beautiful thing about learning is that it never ends. We are all a work in progress, with much learning and growing to be done. As we choose to be attentive and invest in trustworthy instruction, our minds are challenged and our hearts are transformed. With formal education, there may be a point where we have gone as far as we want or need to go, yet the wisdom and understanding that will propel us forward and transform our hearts and minds, knows no end. When we listen more and speak less, our grasp on the world around us grows stronger, and we are better equipped to love well. This is the space where being invested in Christ and listening to His Spirit within us, is critical. That still small voice within, guides our hearts and minds in how we ought to hear, receive, and act on words of instruction. Learning how to live a disciplined life, empowers us to be attentive to the lessons that our peers, mentors, family, friends and experiences are showing us along the way. Often, our greatest growth comes out of the most difficult of seasons. For many of us, this time of solitude has served to lead us to a greater awareness of the people and world around us. The more we know and understand, the better equipped we are to be agents of change for injustice and inequity, as we learn to love better. May we seek the Lord to guide us, so that we may continue to listen and learn all that He has for us.

To listen and learn,

With an open heart;

Is how to grow wise,

Treat love as an art.

For wisdom, it grows,

As we choose invest;

Seek understanding,

And bless as we’re blessed.

Choose be disciplined,

Ever seeking truth;

Throughout our whole lives,

Not merely in youth.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You call us to pay attention, listen and learn. Thank You that You are the ultimate teacher and example for us. Forgive us for the times that we have not listened to Your leading, or have not slowed down to listen and learn. Teach us to be lifelong learners, so that we may grow more and more like You. Show us how to love and listen well. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we listen and trust as You lead. Amen.

Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me. – Psalm 54:4

Commit to Learn and Grow

Commit yourself to instruction; listen carefully to words of knowledge. – (Proverbs 23:12, NLT)

Give yourselves to disciplined instruction; open your ears to tested knowledge. – (Proverbs 23:12, MSG)

Develop a disciplined life. Be attentive so you can be well informed. – (Proverbs 23:12, VOICE)

Just as this is both necessary and beneficial in our day to day life, it is essential in the ever-changing world of education. Not only are the needs of our students changing, but so too are the standards and the curriculum from year to year. Without self-discipline, I would not make it through a single day. Time in the word each morning instructs my heart and soul with reminders of how to love well, and ongoing instruction and interaction with intelligent, innovative colleagues, continues to challenge and refine my craft in the classroom. It is imperative that my ears be open to students and colleagues alike, and God’s grace carries me through the most difficult of days. May we ever be committed to receive instruction, as we listen carefully to words of knowledge that come our way.

Let each heart commit,The Word of God

To listen and learn;

So knowledge is heard,

And hearts may discern.

A disciplined life,

Attentive, informed;

So through wisdom’s gain,

Lives will be transformed.

Commit to listen,

Let God filter all;

Knowledge shall follow,

To this, we are called.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that when we commit ourselves to learn, and listen carefully to instruction, knowledge finds us by Your grace. Thank You that You call us to be well informed and attentive, so that we are aware of the world around us. Forgive us for isolating ourselves or choosing to stay stagnant, when You are calling us to grow. Teach us to trust You more, so that we would ever be committed to learning and growing as we are called by You. Show us how to best develop a disciplined life according to the plan and purpose that You have for us individually. Help us to love others well, so that they too, may come to understand the depth and breadth of You great love. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we commit ourselves to disciplined instruction, and have our ears open to the words that come from You. Amen.
