Awe in the Unseen

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. – (Hebrews 11:1, NIV)

Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see. – (Hebrews 11:1, ERV)

This season is full of wonder. It is a joy to see through the eyes of a child. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of spending some time with my niece, who is three. She is smarter than most, yet completely child-like in her awe and wonder. Her faith in what is good is untainted, and she has high hopes for all that she cannot see. Just as she trusts that treasures will be waiting under her tree on Christmas morning, she knows that Jesus loves her and watches over she and her family. She cherishes with anticipation all that lies ahead, and firmly believes in the goodness of her family’s love. May we too have a child-like wonder in this joyous season, as we remember the reason we celebrate. May our hearts be confident in what we hope for, and assured about that which we do not see.

Let awe and wonder,

Awe in the Unseen

fill our hearts this year;

as we celebrate,

that Christ chose come near.

May each heart choose trust,

in the hope we hold;

faith in the unseen,

as Christ’s love unfolds.

We need simply look,

around us to see;

proof of the unseen,

to humanity.

All thanks be to God,

for hope that is found;

through Jesus, His Son,

let praises resound.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You sent Your Son from heaven to earth to make that which is unseen, seen. Thank You that through the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus, we can be confident in what we hope for and have assurance about what we do not yet see. Forgive us for our fears and doubts. Teach us to trust You more, remembering all that You have done and continue to do on our behalf so that we need not fear. Show us how to cherish this season of Your arrival with anticipation, and how to love others in a way that conveys the very same sort of sacrificial love that You have given us, unto others. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we have confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Amen.

Listen… be wise, and keep your heart on the right path. – Proverbs 23:19

A Teacher’s Prayer

The First Day of SchoolPrepare each heart,

both young and old;

may each be well,

as day unfolds.

When bags are packed,

and lunches made;

with new clothes donned,

supplies arranged.

Lord, go before,

each one of us;

whether by car,

by foot or bus.

Let hope be held,

in every heart;

as we make way,

to year’s new start.

May every child,

find safety there;

may peace be found,

through smiles we wear.

Let each student,

find champion;

and know our care,

as they walk in.

God give us strength,

use us to be;

a voice of hope,

with kids we lead.

For all who come,

are capable;

may we provide,

a place to grow.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for new beginnings. Thank You for the privilege of partnering with You in preparing young lives to be tomorrow’s leaders. Thank You that as we begin a new school year, You have already set in place, which people are to care for every child who enters our schools. Strengthen and equip us to reach and care for each one, and may they leave a bit better at each day’s end. Forgive us for our oversights, and please stand in the gaps where we fall short. Protect every student and staff member that enter our schools, and help each to become the very best version of ourselves. May we honor You with all we do, and may many find way to faith in You. Amen.

Anne update: Yesterday was a quieter day for Anne, but I imagine a bit of rest was good. Today she has an important appointment. Please pray not only for her healing, but for wisdom and words for the medical community entrusted with her care. Please grant them Your words to speak. Hold her heart and her hand as she goes, and be her perfect peace. Blessings to you, my prayerful friends!
With countless thanks, Shannon

Rejoice in the Lord

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhen the chips are down,

planned provisions fail;

rejoice in the Lord,

He who will prevail.

Despite circumstance,

the Lord is still good;

rely not on eyes,

on what’s understood.

For He is our strength,

grants us way to climb;

secures each new step,

He’s present each time.

Rejoice in the Lord,

joy in He who saves;

faithful Provider,

for all of our days.

When hope seems futile,

and darkness surrounds;

give thanks to the Lord,

where true joy is found.

Trust Him to provide,

for each of our needs;

always He’s faithful,

and His plans succeed.

(Responding to Habakkuk 3:17-19)

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that no matter how things appear, You are still God, and You are still good. Thank You that You are our strength, and that we may always choose to rejoice in You. Forgive us for allowing our circumstances to steal our joy, and teach us to rejoice in You – who You are – in all things and at all times. Thank You that You secure our footing, even on shaky ground. May our trust in You, even in times of great trial, move seeking souls to the security found in You alone. Help us to rejoice not in our circumstance, but in the eternal hope we have in You. Amen.
