Sharing a Shoulder

Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. – (Galatians 6:2, NLT)

Help each other with your troubles. When you do this, you are obeying the law of Christ. – (Galatians 6:2, ERV)

Shoulder each other’s burdens, and then you will live as the law of the Anointed teaches us. – (Galatians 6:2, VOICE)

At my church, there has been a phrase that has been spoken many times over the years. I always knew that it was Biblically based, but never really thought about the specific reference from which it may have been derived. However, this morning, this seems a fitting verse to align with the statement, “At Grace, no one stands alone.” The statement is a direct affirmation of a commitment to be obedient to share each others burdens so that no one is attempting to carry the weight on their own. Whatever the challenge, it is lessened when another chooses to join in the journey. Often when we help one another, we end up being helped ourselves in the process. There is a discovery of strength and help and grace, as we walk beside another in the strain of their struggle. May we rise up and look to help one another bear the burdens that life brings, so that we are walking in obedience to Christ and recognizing the power that is present as we choose to obey.

The Lord is calling, OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So that we might see;

Each other’s burdens,

Places where there’s need.

We are meant to share,

The weight of their load;

To help them travel,

Where they’re meant to go.

As we opt rise up,

And help bear the weight;

It’s as God has called,

His peace shall be great.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You call us to share each others burdens so that we have tangible help through You. Thank You that as we walk alongside one another, we are being obedient to what You ask of us. Forgive us for attempting to shoulder the weight of our woes alone, or for neglecting to reach out to those that we know are in need. Teach us to trust You more, so that we would rely on You to lead us to those we are meant to walk beside, and receive the help from others that You provide. Show us how to love those around us who are bearing heavy burdens, so that we might help lessen their loads. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we help one another in times of trouble, just as You are present to help each of us. Amen.

Because of the tender mercy of our God, …the rising sun will come to us from heaven. – Luke 1:78

Sit Not in Suffering

Yet it was our suffering He carried, our pain and distress, our sick-to-the-soul-ness. – (Isaiah 53:4a, VOICE)

Yet it was our weakness He carried; it was our sorrow that weighed Him down. – (Isaiah 53:4a, NLT)

Every pain and every sorrow is known by our Savior. He willingly and lovingly bore the weight on our behalf as He hung upon the cross. Death and darkness were defeated on that day, so though trials and tragedies will come our way, in Christ, the ultimate victory is ours. May we rise up in hope as we trust in the Lord, knowing that our eternal outcome will be in the precious peace of His presence forever.

The pain and sorrow,Refreshment Through Repentance

That happen to us;

Don’t escape notice,

Of our Lord Jesus.

He already bore,

The weight of our woes;

As we come to Him,

He gets it, He knows.

It was His great love,

That bore all our strife;

So we could be free,

As His love brings life.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You willingly chose to bear our suffering, sin, weakness and pain, so that You not only could identify with us, but could love us back to life again. Thank You that You forgive us and set us free from the things that weigh us down, and offer new life in You. Forgive us for sitting in our suffering rather than reaching out to You. Teach us to trust You more, as You are our Healer and our Hope. Show us how to love those around us in ways that ease pain and offer comfort, allowing Your heart to be made visible through our words and deeds. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we give all of our trials to You, and trust You to be our ever-present help and hope. Amen.

But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ. – Ephesians 2:4-5

Strength in Sorrow

My spirit sags because of grief. Now raise me up according to Your promise! – (Psalm 119:28, CEB)

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to Your word. – (Psalm 119:28, NIV)

My soul weeps and trouble weighs me down; give me strength so I can stand according to Your word. – (Psalm 119:28, VOICE)

Life has a way of walking us through seasons of grief. It is a space that no one longs to enter, and all desire the season to end quickly. Sadly, the only way out of a space of sorrow, is to walk through it. In order to move, we need His strength. God’s word is full of His promises to be present and to give us the strength that we need to navigate the trying trails. When we seek Him, we find Him; and He remains present, even in the most difficult places. The Lord will lift us up, take us by the hand, and lead us through the muck, until we find way to the space where we are no longer stuck in the sorrow. His peace shall remain, always. May we seek the Lord when we are weary and weighed down with the woes of this world, and trust Him to give us the strength that He has promised.

When sorrow surrounds,The Benefit of Broken Barriers

we‘re weighed down by grief;

seek the Lord alone,

whose strength brings relief.

His promises clear,

that He will provide;

all that is needed,

to help us survive.

He will raise us up,

where grief brings us low;

as we trust in Him,

the way He will show.

Through all the heartache,

the mourning and grief;

the truth of God’s love,

is hope we can keep.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are with us and You are faithful to strengthen us, even in the weight of our sorrow. Thank You that we can stand firm in You, despite our weariness with what surrounds us. Forgive us for not seeking Your strength in our sorrow, and teach us to trust You more. Show us again Your faithfulness and unending love, in the midst of our heartaches. Lead us to love others in the middle of their trials, so that they too might see Your help and hope through our hands and hearts. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we seek Your strength in our sorrow, and hold fast to Your promises – always. Amen.

And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you.” – Exodus 33:19

Storm Be Still

Storm Be StillWhen sorrow rages,

much like a great storm;

and waves keep crashing,

heart heavy and torn.

Weariness has come,

as ache keeps raging;

the weight of the woes,

relentless, waging.

The flood keeps flowing,

desperate the need;

soul at last cries out,

“I’m done, Father lead.”

In but a moment,

all raging shall cease;

as tender His hands,

hold up and grant peace.

The storm shall subside,

and sweet calm will come;

reach out hands and heart,

to Comforting One.

For just as the sea,

couldn’t help but obey;

so too our sorrows,

each tear wiped away.

Wait in His presence,

in storm and in peace;

allow His great love,

wash over, increase.

(Responding to Luke 8:24)

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are our Comfort and safe space, when the weather of the world wages war on our soul. Thank You that even in the moments of mourning, You are present, our place of peace. Thank You that when we cry out to You, You hear us and hold our heart and our hands. Forgive us for fearing we might feel too much, and help us to be aware of Your nearness when the weight seems unbearable. Thank You that You come and calm the storm in us, and allow us to be still in Your sweet presence. Teach us to trust You more, so that we are quick to surrender our sorrows to You. May our willingness to be transparent, allow many to see and come to know the holy hope that is held in You. Let many be moved into a lasting relationship with You, the Lover of our soul. Amen.
