Always He is Good

Surely Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. – (Psalm 23:6, NIV)

Yes, goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the Lord’s house as long as I live. – (Psalm 23:6, CEB)

So why would I fear the future? For Your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life. Then afterward, when my life is through, I’ll return to Your glorious presence to be forever with You! – (Psalm 23:6, TPT)

God is good all the time and His love endures forever. It is amazing in this season of blessing to look back, as I can so clearly see His goodness and love, and how He has been with me through it all. On the hard days, He held me up, and on the good days, He blessed me with His peace. As wonderful as the blessings can be in the here and now, they are but a whisper of what is yet to come. The hope we hold in the Lord’s presence for all eternity, far exceeds the good we experience in the present. May we ever continue to seek and trust the Lord, as His goodness and faithful love will be present all the days of our lives.

No matter what comes, The Endowment of Early Mornings

Hope ever shall be;

Held fast in my heart,

God’s blessings for me.

For when times are tough,

The Lord will uphold;

And when things are good,

His grace we behold.

In all things, choose seek,

The Lord, who is love;

He’s strength in weakness,

All good from above.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your goodness and grace that bless and uphold us now, and for the hope we hold in You, forever. Thank You that no matter what lies before us in the here and now, our eternity with You is beyond what we could imagine. Forgive us for not holding fast to an eternal perspective when we walk through seasons of both struggle and those of strength. Help us to see Your strength in our struggles and Your goodness in times of blessing. Teach us to trust You in all things. Show us how to love those around us in a way that offers strength, hope and love. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we trust in You forever and hold fast to our eternal hope. Amen.

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. – 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

Power in the Pitfalls

“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.” – 2 Corinthians 12:10

“Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size – abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks.  I just let Christ take over!  And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.” – (The Message)

In this passage, Paul recognizes that “When we are strong in abilities or resources, we are tempted to do God’s work on our own, and that can lead to pride.  When we are weak, allowing God to fill us with His power, then we are stronger than we could ever be on our own.  God does not intend for us to seek to be weak, passive, or ineffective – life provides enough hindrances and setbacks without us creating them.  When those obstacles come, we must depend on God.  Only His power will make us effective for Him and will help us to do work that has lasting value.” – (NIV Study Bible footnotes)

Personally, I do not yet delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, nor in difficulties.  As for persecution, I cannot even pretend to imagine what it must be like for those who put their lives on the line to worship and spend time in His word in places where being caught for such things, lead to imprisonment or death.  In the midst of struggles, I do not delight in discomfort.  However, I am in a place where I am more rapidly reacting to wreckage by reaching for and relying upon my Redeemer.  His strength does supply all that I need to stand firm in Him in the midst of struggles.  The delight for me does not come until I have reached the other side of the struggle, and can look back and recognize how His hand has carried me through the mess.  I am so thankful that He is not finished with me yet!  Each trial or time of testing is an opportunity to set aside self, and seek total dependence on Him.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You alone are our unfailing source of strength in life’s struggles.  Please forgive us for trying to muscle our way through the messes, and teach our hearts to turn to trust You in all things and at all times.  May we be quick to recognize how You are refining us as we learn to rely on You.  Teach us to stand in Your strength and to delight in the opportunity that is being presented for Your power to be made known.  May Your strength be made known in our weaknesses so that many may come to know You as the Messiah.  May Your strength be shown and Your heart made known, even in the midst of our messes.  Amen.
