Rest in the Rock

Rest in the RockFind rest, O my soul,

it comes from God alone;

for He is my Rock,

the true foundation stone.

He is my fortress,

in Him I will not shake;

my own salvation,

and honor He does make.

He’s my mighty Rock,

my refuge through the storm;

the place of safety,

my soul kept safe and warm.

Trust in Him always,

O people of the Lord;

He’s our Protector,

powerful shield and sword.

One thing He’s spoken,

and two things I have heard;

You, O God, are strong,

and Your love is a verb.

For our great reward,

bestowed from the Son;

is eternal hope,

for life’s race that we run.

(Responding to Psalm 62:5-8, 11-12)

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are our Rock and our Refuge. Thank You that we may take shelter in the shadow of Your wings. Thank You that when we place our trust in You, we will not be shaken – even in the strength of the storm’s full fury. Forgive us for not fully trusting You in all things and at all times, and teach us to trust, as You alone deserve all of our trust. May we walk out our days trusting in Your strength, not our own; and may we live lives of love, just as You love us. Let those who are looking, see Your light shining through our love. In Your mighty Name, amen.

Rejoice Always

Rejoice always in the Lord,

let His evidence be clear;

may He be our shield and sword,

as He fends off all our fear.

May gentleness be for all,

it shows that the Lord is near;

our God hears us as we call,

present needs unto His ear.

The powerful peace of God,

will guard our heart and our mind,

transcending our blind facade,

through prayer, answers we shall find.

Alas, dear ones, let it be,

may we train both mind and heart,

to fix on pure and lovely,

things praiseworthy from the start.

(Responding to Philippians 4:4-8)

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the mighty men and women of faith who have gone before us so that we might have examples of lives lived well in You.  Thank You for the powerful praise and purpose that Paul presented to the Philippians, despite his being in prison.  Regardless of his circumstances, he chose to rejoice.  May we too, follow his example.  Forgive us for allowing fear to blind us from the truth we hold in You.  May we always present our prayers and petitions before You, being confident that You hear, and that You have our very best in mind, despite what we may see with our human hearts.  Help us to fix our eyes, mind, and heart on You and those things of You that build up the body, so that we might encourage and strengthen one another in Your love.  May many come to know Your lasting love, as we walk out our days, willing to rejoice in all things and at all times.  Thank You that You are ALWAYS good.  Amen.

Because We Draw Breath

Great are the blessings,

granted by the Lord.

Unto the righteous,

He’s shield and our sword.

Because I have breath,

my lips will sing praise.

I shall seek and find

Him all of my days.

May my hope in Him,

grant courage to those,

burdened by trials;

caught up in life’s throes.

Search in the scary.

Come to Him with fears.

Mighty Strong Tower,

the Catcher of tears.

In times of trouble,

no need to look far.

In our very hearts,

is right where You are.

Your angels surround,

protect as we pray;

so taste His goodness,

run to Him today!

(Psalm 34:1-8)

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that because we draw breath, we have reason to give You praise.  Thank You that Your blessings of faithfulness are promised to those who actively seek You.  Forgive us for feeling stuck, rather than actively seeking You.  Help us to relentlessly pursue You and all that You have for us as Your children.  Thank You that though troubles come, Your presence is promised forever, to all who call on Your Name.  May our passion and faithfulness to give You praise in all things and at all times, lead those who are looking, into Your loving embrace.  Amen.
