Within Us

God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. – (Psalm 46:5, NIV)

The True God never sleeps and always resides in the city of joy; He makes it unstoppable, unshakable. When it awakes at dawn, the True God has already been at work. – (Psalm 46:5, VOICE)

God is in the midst of His city, secure and never shaken. At daybreak His help will be seen with the appearing of the dawn. – (Psalm 46:5, TPT)

David’s declaration of God’s faithfulness in song, as found in Psalm 46, was a proclamation of how God remains faithful and keeps His people secure. It is a reminder that the Lord never stops moving on our behalf, and that we are made aware anew each morning, as the dawn of each day appears. Though the phrasing of the NIV is in reference to an entire people group, I appreciate how it makes it feel more personal. When I imagine the words are from God’s heart to mine, reminding me that He is within me (and mom) and that we will not fall; that He will help us at the break of day, I find renewed hope and strength, trust and resolve. This morning, this feels especially true, as I am rested and restored, after mom only woke once in the night, and it was after a five-hour stretch. Her appointment yesterday was encouraging, as we so appreciated meeting with a neurosurgeon who was clearly practicing for the intent and purpose of helping people. Though his specialty is surgical, his recommendation for mom was on that would be far less invasive, with little to no recovery time. Rather than take on something himself, he was quick to make a referral for something far less complicated; clearly holding mom’s healing and rehabilitation in mind. We left the appointment encouraged, with an ongoing appreciation for the care that is available in mom’s home town. Incredibly, mom had a fantastic physical therapy session prior to her appointment, despite here lack of sleep, and continues to make great gains as she works on walking with a walker up and down her hallway.

After the appointment, we had called in an order for fresh spring rolls from our favorite place in town. We made a quick stop to pick them up, and then headed home. Astonishingly, mom only took a 45-minute siesta after lunch, and was up and alert the remainder of the afternoon. Once we had finished dinner and settled in to watch a movie, mom began to fade quickly. Though she attempted to fend off the exhaustion, sleep overtook her, and she dozed in her comfy chair by 7:30. We called it a night at 8:00 pm, and she was snoozing away in her bed within thirty minutes. God truly has us; He won’t let us fall; He helps us anew every morning. May we trust in He who is faithful forever; for He is always good.

God is within us, not-defined-by-a-day

With Him, we won’t fall;

He’ll help us anew,

With each new day’s call.

The Lord never sleeps,

He’s ever aware;

He knows all our needs,

And answers with care.

Grants rest when weary,

Hope in our dismay;

Peace in our unrest,

Help for each new day.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that Your love is unfailing and never ending. Thank You that You do not sleep and are ever watching over us. Forgive us for our frustration in our own weariness. Teach us to trust You more, as You are our Source and Supply. Thank You that with You in us, we will not fall, and that You will help us with the dawn of each new day. Show us how to love those around us in a way that offers help and hope to press on, even on the most discouraging of days. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we rise with You in us. Amen.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10

Wherever God Dwells

God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. – (Psalm 46:5, NLT)

God is in the midst of His city, secure and never shaken. At daybreak His help will be seen with the appearing of the dawn. – (Psalm 46:5, TPT)

God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. – (Psalm 46:5, NIV)

The city the author is referring to is the promised New Jerusalem. Incredibly, God’s promises for us are similar when He dwells within us. His protection, help and strength are new every morning. This is great encouragement, as there are days I feel like I may sink. Each day, God provides new strength, help and His presence. For an early riser like myself, I witness His ushering in of each distinct dawn, as light chases away the dark of night. The NIV translation feels like personal encouragement. Though the verse is in reference to the city of God, His promises are for His people. All who love the Lord and follow Him, are a part of that city that cannot be destroyed. May we seek the Lord to be our security and strength, and give Him praise that His help is new every morning.

Wherever God dwells, Established Peace

Shall not be destroyed;

For where the Lord is,

His strength is employed.

Each brand-new morning,

His help is renewed;

With each rising sun,

Faithfulness proved true.

Choose trust in the One,

Whose mercy won’t fail;

Where darkness exists,

His light will prevail.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are within us; You will not fail. Thank You that You help us anew at the dawning of each new day. Forgive us for our fear and doubts when we feel as if the darkness will overtake us. Teach us to trust You more. Show us how the light within destroys the darkness that surrounds. Lead us to love those around us in a way that offers strength, hope and light. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we place our trust in You and rely on You to be our strength and help, as Your provision is new every morning. Amen.

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. – 2 Samuel 22:33

Help Ever Near

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. – (Psalm 46:1, NIV)

God is our protection and source of strength. He is always ready to help us in times of trouble. – (Psalm 46:1, ERV)

God is our shelter and our strength. When troubles seem near, God is nearer, and He’s ready to help. – (Psalm 46:1, VOICE)

God is faithful to meet us wherever we are, no matter what we are facing. Yesterday, I wrote about my anxiousness over an upcoming oral surgery that I need to have done. Incredibly, it was not at the surgeon’s office that peace was made present, but rather through the sweet and encouraging words of both my sister-in-love and a sweet friend from work. As each mentioned their own experiences or that of another, my mind was eased of the fear that I had been holding. Often God’s nearness is made tangible through those whom He places around us. For me, learning from those who had witnessed or experienced what lies ahead, took the unknown element out that which was the root of my fear. Strength is provided in the safety of His hands when we choose to seek Him. May we ever remember our Source of strength and safety when trouble instills fear into our heart.

Space of protection, Pardon Brings Peace

Our Calmer of fear;

When troubles come close,

The Lord will be near.

Choose place in His hands,

All trouble that comes;

He will keep us safe,

Grant strength through His Son.

Thank You, Lord Jesus,

That You are our hope;

Faithful to meet us,

His grace helps us cope.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are faithful to be near and answer us as we call on You for help. Thank You that You are our strength and our shelter in all things and at all times. Thank You for the people that You place in our lives to be Your voice and Your heart to us. Forgive us for our fears when troubles and trials come our way. Teach us to trust You more, so that we would seek You for strength and peace and safety. Show us how to love others well, so that they may come to know the strength and security that are found in You. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we run to You as our Source of safety and strength, for You are always near. Amen.

But You, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me. – Psalm 22:19

Protection and Strength

God is our protection and source of strength. He is always ready to help us in times of trouble. – (Psalm 46:1, ERV)

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. – (Psalm 46:1, NIV)

No matter what comes our way, we have help, strength and safety when we trust in the Lord. He is always ready and available to be our help and supply the strength we need, and He will protect us in ways we would never imagine on our own. Safety and strength, help and hope – all come from God. May we seek Him to be our Source, and rely on His faithfulness to see us through.

Our place of refuge,Rest in the Rock

Our strength in the storm;

Help when there’s trouble,

His grace shall transform.

Always, He’s ready,

As Source and Supply;

To give help and strength,

He hears each heart cry.

So call on the Lord,

He is ever near;

To protect and give,

Strength to face each fear.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are our protection and source of strength. Thank You that You are always ready to help us in times of trouble. Thank You that we do not need to be afraid when trouble comes, as our hope is in You alone. Forgive us for our fearfulness and our lack of dependence on You. Teach us how to trust You more, so that we would seek You to be our Source in all things and at all times. Show us how to love others in a way that help them to see the strength and security that is found in You alone. May many enter into lasting relationships with You. Be glorified O God, as we trust You to be our protection and our source of strength in all things and at all times. Amen.

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy. – Hebrews 4:16

To Choose to Be Still

“Be still, and know that I am God!…” – (Psalm 46:10a, NLT)

“Be still, be calm, see, and understand that I am the True God…” – (Psalm 46:10a, VOICE)

Life can get extraordinarily busy. I am no exception. This is by far, my busiest season, as I am on the go from 3:30am to 8:00pm or later most weekdays. The reason for such early rising is to provide myself the opportunity to do just as this verse instructs. Beginning my day in silent stillness before the Lord, offers calm and clarity to take on each new day. It can be easy to get caught up in the busy, and forget Who has equipped us to do the things that we do, and as we make way through the midst of it all, how deeply we are loved by Him. Our reason to be still is to come into a space of understanding of who God is, and how He loves. As we learn and grow, we are compelled to go forth and do likewise – not out of obligation nor selfish ambition, but simply because we are loved we and want to do the same. May we take pause and be still before the Lord, so that we may hear His heart for us, and understand the greatness of our God.

We are invited,Hope in What is Unseen

to come before Christ;

in quiet stillness,

where hope’s realized.

As we choose be still,

our hearts come to know;

the greatness of God,

and how His love flows.

True understanding,

place of clarity;

is found in stillness,

solidarity.

Let our hearts be calm,

come into His rest;

know He is the Lord,

and He loves us best.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that when we quiet ourselves before You, we come to understand more of who You are, and how You love. Thank You that You are the True God who knows us and loves us, in spite of ourselves. Forgive us for not slowing down to be still before You, as we miss out on all that You have for us. Teach us to be still and set our hearts on You, as we further discover who You are and how You love. Show us how to demonstrate the love and grace that You give to us and to all whom we encounter. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we choose to be still and recognize the greatness of You. Amen.

Father, I thank You that You have heard me. – John 11:41

God Will Help

Yesterday was the second and final day of the Ragnar Relay, that I partook in for the second year in a row. This relay is a 12 person, 196 mile event, that is continuous running until the course is completed. The race is divided into 36 legs, and each runner runs three different legs, that vary in length and terrain. There were two factors this year that made the course more challenging. First, I went from having the one of the shorter combined mileage total legs to the longest mileage legs. Additionally, the weather this year was HOT. I am typically an early morning or late evening runner, as I much prefer the cooler temperatures, or at least the heat that does not include the sun beating down on the pavement. For our van, van two, two out of the three legs that we ran, were directly run in the heat of the day. Direct sun on asphalt adds about twenty degrees to the air temperature when one is running, so the temperatures which we were enduring were upwards of 104+…

The interesting thing that I found myself doing on each of my runs, was I knew that despite all of my preparation, it would only be in His strength, that I would be able to endure and run the race that had been set before me. Each time I received the bracelet (in lieu of a baton) I would find myself praying nearly the entire run. Each time, I was thankful for a healthy body that was able to be out in such beautiful terrain and capable of moving freely. Next, I found myself letting the Lord know just how desperately I needed Him to sustain me, as during the daytime runs, I feared heat exhaustion without His strength and endurance. My middle of the night leg was my longest leg, as I ran 9.8 miles at 2am in the dark, through Deception Pass. With each run, I found that my legs kept moving, and my body knew what to do. He sustained me, and brought me joy in the journey, as I was able to take in the beauty that surrounded me as I ran. Even on the hardest legs in the heat, He used other runners, my teammates, and random strangers to encourage me along the way. Though one of the most exhausting and grueling tests of physical endurance I have endured, it was yet again an opportunity for God to show me more of Himself in a very tangible way. The verse that seems most fitting for the experience for me is as follows:

God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. – (Psalm 46:5)

God sustains and protects His people as we call on His Name. He is present and able to provide, even in the seemingly impossible spaces. He is so very good. May we rise up and run, trusting in His strength to sustain us, so that others too, may see that it is He who is within us, is our help and our strength.

No matter our race,God Will Help

the Lord remains near;

whenever we pray,

our God, He shall hear.

For the Lord within,

will not let us fall;

He’ll help and sustain,

to that which we’re called.

From the break of day,

to the setting sun;

the Lord is faithful,

His love’s never done.

Let us choose to trust,

in the One who can;

provide what’s needed,

our wondrous I AM.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are good. Thank You that when we place our trust in You, You are within us and You keep us from falling. Thank You that You are our help, no matter the hour of the day or night. Thank You that You have created us each with a far greater capacity than we think is possible until we step out and trust in You. Forgive us for limiting Your ability to move through us, through our choice to limit what we are willing to do. Teach us to trust You more, so that we will be willing to step out in faith to whatever You ask of us. Lead us to love others well, so that they too, may come to know the love and faithfulness that is available in You alone. Be glorified O God, as we depend on You in all that we say and do. Amen.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus  Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. – 2 Corinthians 1:3

God Within Her

I have been in a seemingly long and wearying season. This is my busiest time of year, and the constant chaos tends to take its toll. God is ALWAYS faithful to meet me each morning, and His strength and grace sustain me through my days. That being said, the very thought of this day, is a bit overwhelming. After such a long week, I am ready to fast forward to the weekend. As I read my scheduled reading plan, there was really nothing that was standing out. My typical default in such times, is to turn to the Psalms. No sooner had I turned back the pages, did the following verse stand out as if it were in bold type: God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at the break of day. – (Psalm 46:5)

Today, I will hold fast to this word, for He is within me and will not allow me to fall. He is with me as I rise, and remains present wherever I go. The Lord is my strength and my song, even in chaos and weariness. It never ceases to amaze me how He chooses to remind us just how much He loves us. Even as I look back over this past week, I am in awe at having received several texts from friends that were very encouraging; some of which were from friends who had no idea that the week had been such a crazy busy one. Just as He is with me, keeping me from falling, so too, is He with you. He is our help and our hope from the moment we rise to when we close our eyes, at our day’s end. May we each hold fast to the promise of His faithful presence, and trust in His unfailing love.

The Lord is present,God Within Her

He’ll not let us fall;

from when we first rise,

He stays through it all.

God is ever near,

no matter what comes;

from the break of day,

to the setting sun.

His strength is enough,

to trust for today;

embrace what is true,

let Christ lead the way.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that when we place our trust in You, You are within us and will keep us from falling. Thank You that You are our ever present help, from the break of day to the setting sun. Thank You that there is no limit to Your goodness and faithfulness. Forgive us for forgetting that all of the strength that we need dwells within us, in You. Teach us to trust You more, so that we will rely on You and Your provision for all that we need each day. Help us to live and love in such a way, that others come to know Your love and faithfulness. Be glorified O God, as we go forth in Your strength, remembering that You are within us, providing what we need for this day. Amen.

Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God, You who have done great things.  Who, O God, is like You? – Psalm 71:19
