I wake before the dawn and call for help; I hope in Your words. – (Psalm 119:147, VOICE)

I get up early in the morning to pray to You. I trust what You say. – (Psalm 119:147, ERV)

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in Your word. – (Psalm 119:147, NIV)

The stillness of the early morning provides the perfect place to pray and set my heart right for the day. When I wake, I am able to direct my mind to my Maker, and allow the truth of His word to cover my countenance before I have a single interaction with another soul. Though I am human and flawed, this practice of seeking space grants me grace that I would not otherwise have, and likely saves many middle school students from responses they’d rather not hear. My patience is still pressed and my buttons still pushed, yet the capacity to extend grace and forgiveness is exponentially greater because my heart is held in His hands. God is good, and He is faithful to answer each request for help that we reach heavenward. His word is trustworthy and true, and we can count on Him no matter what comes our way. May we ever remember to call on Him for help when we rise, trusting that He will be our help throughout each new day.

Early each morning,Lead for Life

I choose rise and pray;

It sets heart and mind,

With grace for the day.

I call to the Lord,

For help He provides;

I trust in His word,

It helps, leads and guides.

Let all of our hope,

In the Lord God rest;

For He hears our cries,

And leads and loves best.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that when we seek You in the early morning, You are present and listening – ready to answer. Thank You that we can trust You and Your every word. Forgive us for not seeking You at the start of our day, or for lacking faith in Your word. Teach us to trust You more, so that we will rise and seek Your help – ever placing our trust in You and what You have spoken. Show us how to love those around us well, so that they might see Your faithfulness through our love. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we seek You in the morning and hope in You all day long. Amen.

Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God, You who have done great things. Who, O God, is like You? – Psalm 71:19

I am sad and tired. Say the word, and make me strong again. – (Psalm 119:28, ERV)

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. – (Psalm 119:28, NIV)

Sorrow is a sadness that seems to strangle the soul; it comes and clings to the core and clouds one’s countenance for a season. The magnitude of what is now missing weighs heavily on my heart; though expected, and even celebrated for the blessed homecoming that has happened, there is this space of having to reconcile earthly loss with heavenly gain. This verse perfectly depicts the space where I find my heart. I am sad and tired, exhausted really. However, I know that my strength and hope are held in Christ, and it is by His grace that I can move forward, and it was His strength that carried me through yesterday. Each day is made new, and I need seek Him for today and trust that He will remain present; as He will carry me when I cannot go any further. Already, He has poured out His grace through the kindness of family and friends who have surrounded each of us who are lamenting the loss of my grandmother. This season of sorrow, though seemingly heavy, will be short, and then there will be a time to celebrate a life well lived. May we ever seek the Lord and His strength, as He is trustworthy and true to His word as the giver of strength and holder of hope.

The weight of sorrow,Strength in the Sorrow

Makes weary and worn;

This space of sadness,

When hearts are forlorn.

‘Tis but a season,

Deep ache for the lost;

Time to cling to Christ,

He knows what love costs.

Seek the Lord for strength,

He’s true to His word;

His hope shall breathe joy,

And peace undeterred.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that we can come to You in our seasons of sorrow, and You meet us and grant us strength. Thank You for the peace that passes all understanding, even in the midst of our own pain. Forgive us for trying to trudge forward rather than rely on You for strength. Teach us to trust You more, as it takes but a word from You and we are restored. Show us how to love those around us through their seasons of sorrow, and celebrate with them, their seasons of joy. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we seek Your strength in our sorrow, and trust You to be true to Your word. Amen.

As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. – James 5:11

You are my refuge and my shield; Your word is my source of hope. – (Psalm 119:114, NLT)

Hide me and protect me. I trust what You say. – (Psalm 119:114, ERV)

You are my hiding place and my shield of protection; I hope in Your word. – (Psalm 119:114, VOICE)

There are days where we need, more than ever, a space where we can sink into His arms and trust, as the world around us doesn’t seem to make sense. Between fighting the “crud” and the looming uncertainty that is now surrounding my profession, I need to remember where my hope comes from. Despite how I feel or what I see, God has me in the palm of His hand. He will never leave us nor forsake us, and He is far greater than the things that go on in the world. Today, I will choose to trust His protection and provision, as He is my help and my hope. Already, He has made a way for my day to be shortened with a two-hour delay, so rather than having to power through an entire day of not feeling well, it will be a short day, which is far more doable than daunting. As for the coming days, I need to turn in trust for each new day as it comes, and do that which I can do, remembering that my most important priority is and will always remain, to love well, as I am loved by Him. May we trust in the Lord to be our refuge and shield, and allow His word to be our source of hope when hope seems elusive.

My refuge and shield,Gods protection

My hope’s in Your word;

No matter what’s seen,

Or news that is heard.

God, You are greater,

Than chaos and greed;

Your heart’s always kind,

And You know our need.

Lord, be our refuge,

Our hope and our source;

Lead us and guide us,

Keep our hearts on course.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are our refuge and shield of protection. Thank You that Your word is our source of hope. Thank You that no matter what we see or hear, You are greater, and You hold us in Your hands. Forgive us for our fearfulness when things veer off course. Teach us to trust You more, so that we would seek You for wisdom and grace, to know what we are meant to do while things are awry. Show us how to live and love according to Your will, so that many will come to know Your heart and the hope that is held in You. Be glorified O God, as we trust what You say, and place our hope in You. Amen.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. – Psalm 23:6

You made me; You created me. Now give me the sense to follow Your commands. – (Psalm 119:73, NLT)

With Your hands You made me and helped me become what I am. Now help me understand Your commands. – (Psalm 119:73, ERV)

Because we are His created, we can seek the Lord and ask Him which way we are meant to go. As we ask, He answers, for God is faithful to meet us as we seek Him. Wisdom from the Lord is required to know how to follow His will and walk in His way. Let us seek God, the Giver of light and life, to grant us guidance to understand and obey His commands.

Lord, You have made me,Delivering Dreams

Crafted by Your hands;

I need Your wisdom,

To obey Your plans.

Help me understand,

Your will, and not mine;

Help me to obey,

May my heart align.

Please lead me, O Lord,

In all that I do;

So my words and deeds,

Bring honor to You.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You created me – that You designed me with Your own hands. Thank You that You have a plan and a purpose for each of us. Thank You that as we ask, You grant us wisdom and understanding to know how to follow Your commands and walk upright before You. Forgive us for not asking, or for neglecting to do that which we know is the way we are meant to go. Teach us to trust You more, so that we would seek You for wisdom and strength, to know Your will and obey. Show us how to love those around us in a way that honors You. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we seek You for understanding to know the ways we are meant to go. Amen.

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad. – 1 Chronicles 16:31

Remember Your promise to me; it is my only hope. – (Psalm 119:49, NLT)

Remember Your promise to me, Your servant. It gives me hope. – (Psalm 119:49, ERV)

In the midst of uncertainty, there is One in whom our hope is promised secure. Not unlike us, I imagine that the author of Psalm 119 was seeking tangible evidence of God’s presence and faithfulness, as all had not gone according to plan. When we place our trust in the Lord, our hope lies not in what we see, but rather in the truth that we know. Life may get difficult, but God is always good. He is faithful to His word, and we can trust His promises to be true. May we ever call on the Lord and His strength, as He is faithful to keep His promises and is our Source of all hope.

No matter what comes,Honoring the Temple

Our hope is secure;

When we trust in God,

There’s no need to fear.

For He has promised,

His presence and grace;

Hope for our future,

And strength for today.

Let’s not grow weary,

Of counting on Him;

For He is faithful,

Day out and day in.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You never forget Your promises to us. Thank You that You do not grow weary of our asking for reminders of Your presence, as You are pleased to have us seek You. Thank You that our hope is found in You. Forgive us for not trusting Your promises to be true for us personally, or for losing hope based on what we see. Teach us to trust You more, as You alone are worthy of all of our trust. Show us how to love others well, so they too, may discover the hope that is found in all that You faithfully promise. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we seek You and trust Your promises, as our hope remains in You alone. Amen.

Answer me, O Lord, out of the goodness of Your love; in Your great mercy turn to me. – Psalm 69:16

I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on Your laws. – (Psalm 119:30, NIV)

As one season comes to a close, and another begins anew, I must choose again to set my heart on pursuing the path that the Lord has placed before me. Though I am uncertain of all that includes, I know that my part is to choose to obey that which He asks, and to keep Him as my priority in all things. Whatever I do, I must ask myself if it is pleasing to Him, and if there is a way to give Him glory through it. I don’t mean this in a hyper-spiritual sense, but rather am I doing what I was created to do? For example, when I am outdoors and moving, I see and know the glory of His creation, and feel His pleasure in the freedom I have to challenge my body, physically. When I teach, I know that to be faithful to Him, I must be kind and compassionate, and love each student, no matter how they come through my classroom door. In newer arenas, there is a learning curve for what His way looks like, but I know that if I choose to seek Him, He will show me the way to walk in His truth. May we each choose the way of faithfulness to our Heavenly Father, and set our hearts on His laws. As we are faithful to follow the Lord, we come to know His pleasure in our pursuit of Him.

May we choose the way,Our Map and Our Guide

Of true faithfulness;

With hearts set on Christ,

Light of righteousness.

Let our eyes be set,

On doing what’s right;

According to God,

Let us live in His light.

For in the sweet space,

Of obedience;

We remain faithful,

To all that He asks.

Help our hearts, dear Lord,

To do as You say;

To go where You lead,

And walk in Your way.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that when we choose to faithfully seek You, You grant us the strength and help that we need to walk in Your ways. Thank You that You write Your laws upon our hearts when we invest our time in being in Your presence. Forgive us for neglecting to seek You in all things, or for setting aside what we know to be true for temporary gain. Teach us to trust You in all things and at all times, so that we would choose faithfulness in ALL things. Show us how to walk in Your truth at all times, and how to love others in such a way, that they can see You through us. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we choose the way of faithfulness and set our hearts on Your laws. Amen.

Because of the tender mercy of our God, …the rising sun will come to us from heaven. – Luke 1:78

A clearly marked course makes all the difference in our ability to navigate where we need to go. Road signs, mile markers, and definitive directions, make reaching one’s destination, doable. The same holds true in how we navigate our lives. We need clear direction from the Lord, to know how He intends for us to run the race that He has placed before us. Our race plan will not unfold before us unless we seek the Lord and His will for our lives. If we just run about aimlessly, we miss the mark on the more that the Lord intends for our lives.

I’ll run the course You lay out for me, if You’ll just show me how. – (Psalm 119:32, MSG)

May we seek the Lord with willing hearts, ready to run the course He sets before us. Let our eyes see, our ears hear, and our hearts understand His direction with the faith to follow wherever He leads.

The Lord, in His love,1 Ragnar 1 Mile to go

Remains ever near;

He’ll show us the path,

If we’ll only hear.

May we choose listen,

Run swift where He leads;

No matter the course,

He’ll meet all our needs.

Choose trust each new day,

As we run His course;

Allow faith rise up,

For Christ is our Source.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that when we seek Your direction, You show us the course that You have laid out before us. Thank You that You do not just point to something and say “Go!”, but rather You show us the way and then strengthen, equip us, and walk beside us as we go. Forgive us for our lack of seeking direction as we go. Teach us to trust You in all things – great and small, as You care about them all. Show us how to love others in a way that equips and encourages them to pursue the path that You have planned for them as well. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we seek Your guidance and direction for each new leg of our journey so that we may run in a way that represents You well. Amen.

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. – Psalm 145:8

Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth You created. – (Psalm 119:90, NLT)

You are loyal forever and ever. You made the earth and it still stands. – (Psalm 119:90, ERV)

David compared the faithfulness and loyalty of God to something tangible that we could grasp. Just as the earth endures, despite man’s destructive nature, so too does the faithful love of the Lord to those who call on His Name. God’s faithfulness did not end because of our sinfulness. Instead, He made the way for our relationship to be restored unto Himself through the life, death and resurrection of His Son. There is no greater love nor loyalty than that of one willing to lay down His life on our behalf. As I consider people in my own life, I am fiercely loyal to those whom I know care for either my children or for me. How much more invested ought my heart be in the One who laid down His life so that I could live? May we lay hold of the magnitude of the Lord’s faithfulness unto us, and respond in a way that demonstrates our gratitude.

May my heart embrace,Enter With Thanksgiving

Your great faithfulness;

The way that You love,

Grant life unto us.

Just as creation,

Forever endures;

So too, You’re faithful,

Throughout all our years.

Help us to receive,

These blessings from You;

So we may go forth,

And live life anew.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are faithful to every generation, and that Your faithfulness does not end. Thank You that we can trust in You forever, as You have made the way for us to walk upright before You. Forgive us for not receiving all that You offer, and teach us to trust You more. Show us how to walk in Your ways and live in Your truth. Lead us to love others in such a way, that they may see Your faithfulness and loyalty through how we care. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we trust in Your faithful love forever. Amen.

Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. – James 5:13

I wake before dawn and call for help; I hope in Your words. – (Psalm 119:147, VOICE)

I rise early, before the sun is up; I cry out for help and put my hope in Your words. – (Psalm 119:147, NLT)

From the moment I first rise, my mind begins to race with all that I have to do throughout the day. If I were left to my own devices, I would surely self-combust on most of them. However, for me, each day begins with what matters most, as I am intentional to slow my heart and mind, and settle in to focus on God and His word. In the quiet stillness of the early morning, while the world still sleeps, I read the words written from His heart to mine, and He whispers encouragement, instruction, and correction that draw me ever closer unto Him. My hope continues to grow, the more I come to see and know, just how great our God truly is. He is my help and my hope, and He hears every word whispered from the depths of my heart. May each new day greet you with a revelation of His presence, as you become more and more aware of how He is at the ready – waiting and willing to hear every cry of your heart.

Before the dawn breaks,Approaching the Throne of Grace

the Lord is so near;

ready as we wake,

as we speak, He’ll hear.

When we call on Him,

our hope is assured;

the truth of His word,

where peace is secured.

No matter what comes,

or what lies ahead;

when Christ is with us,

we‘ve nothing to dread.

Even in trials,

in hardships and pain;

the Lord takes our hand,

His hope shall remain.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that when we rise early to call on You, You meet us, and provide Your promises of hope in Your word. Thank You that Your presence is assured when we place our trust in You. Thank You that no matter what comes, You promise to never leave us nor forsake us. Forgive us for not bringing our needs before You and trying to take Your rightful place. Teach us to trust You more, so that we will place all things in Your hands, and trust You to lead and guide us in the ways in which we are meant to go. Show us how to love people through their pain, so that their hearts might seek after You. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we rise early to spend time with You and study Your word, as it is in this space where our hope grows greater in You. Amen.

You have made known to me the paths of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence. – Acts 2:28

You are my hiding place and my shield of protection; I hope in Your word. – (Psalm 119:114, VOICE)

Hide me and protect me. I trust what You say. – (Psalm 119:114, ERV)

You are my refuge and my shield; Your word is my source of hope. – (Psalm 119:114, NLT)

Our hope and help when troubles and trials surround us, are found in Christ alone. He protects us and provides safety and comfort, despite how things seem. His word is the place that provides us reminder of the promises of His protection, granting us hope that we can hold firm. May we trust in the truth of His word, and rest in the shelter of His wings.

When the trials come,Gods protection

there‘s a hiding place;

where we’re protected,

and covered by grace.

When we seek the Lord,

and trust in His word;

He’s our protection,

the hope we have heard.

He will be our shield,

our true hiding place;

we are always safe,

in His kind embrace.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are our refuge and shield, and that Your word is our source of hope. Thank You that when we seek You, we find You and You remain present and keep Your word. Thank You that You are loving and faithful forever. Forgive us for trying to navigate our trials on our own, rather than calling out to You and trusting the truth that You have promised. Teach us to trust You more, so that we would run to You and allow Your love to shield us through the storms. Show us how to love others so that they may see Your hope through the kindness we extend to them. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we run to You as our refuge and shield, as You are our Source of hope. Amen.
