Bold and Unhindered

Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ. – (Acts 28:31)

 

Paul was a well-educated and on point orator. However, his skills would have been for naught, if he were not submitted and committed to following Christ with his whole heart. The Lord took what was already in him, and used it for His glory. To me, the idea of public preaching and teaching to large crowds is terrifying. Thankfully, at this point in my life, I do not feel called to do what Paul did. That being said, it is still my charge to share God’s love wherever I go. The gifts and skill sets placed in me, can still be utilized for His glory, if I choose to submit myself unto the Lord. As I write, I do so unto Him. When I draw, I trust Him to show me how I might bless another with the images He brings to mind.  In the classroom and the coaching arena, I can model patience and perseverance in love.  Even more importantly, I can teach my own children His way, and love them as I am loved by Christ. In doing so, only He knows the future impact my obedience may have. May we all boldly and without hindrance, seek to serve and obey God, in whatever way we are called.

 

Bold and unhindered,

we’re all called to go;

to share the good news,

with all whom we know.

For some it’s through speech,

and elegant words;

others through service,

the message is heard.

When all that we do,

is done in Christ’s love;

people will notice,

true kindness above.

Wherever we are,

in all that we do;

may we trust in Him,

and obey His truth.

 

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us well, and for raising up bold and unhindered people who showed us Your love so that we could come to know You. Thank You that You call us to be bold and unhindered in using the very things that You have gifted and grown in us for Your glory. Forgive us for being timid or disobedient in answering that which You call us to do, and help us to trust You completely so that we may go forth in confidence, knowing that it is by Your strength that we can do all things to which we are called. Lead us to love others completely and without reservation, just as You love us with all that You are. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we go forth, bold and unhindered in all that You call us to do. Amen.

Opposition Moved the Message

On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. – (Acts 8:1) At first glance, these words seem devastating to a growing and thriving body of believers. However, in just a few verses more, the story continues with: Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. – (Acts 8:4)

 

Though persecution had forced the believers to flee from their homes, with them, went their faith. Rather than squash what was thriving, the message of Christ began to be spread throughout Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

 

“Sometimes we have to become uncomfortable before we’ll move. We may not want to experience it, but discomfort may be the best thing for us because God may be working through our hurts. When you are tempted to complain about uncomfortable or painful circumstances, stop and ask if God might be preparing you for a special task.” – (NIV footnotes for Acts 8:4)

 

When pressure or pain,

make way on my path;

they may have purpose,

that isn’t God’s wrath.

Often He uses,

discomfort to grow;

prepare and strengthen,

ready us to go.

At times it’s the call,

that we truly need;

to step out in faith,

and obey His lead.

When things are painful,

may we slow and ask;

are You preparing,

for a special task?

Let our hearts rely,

on the Lord’s power;

may we overcome,

through our Strong Tower.

 

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You don’t simply allow us to be uncomfortable for the sake of discomfort, but rather You utilize every challenge for ultimate good. Thank You for the example of the early church – what remarkable faith they had to go and share Christ, even in the face of tremendous persecution. Forgive us Father, for complaining when things are uncomfortable or painful, and help us to ask You how You might be using our circumstances to prepare us for something down the road. Teach us to trust You more, so that our initial response is to run to You. Lead us to love others with the love that You have so abundantly poured out upon each of us. May many come into a saving relationship with You. Be exalted Lord God, as we move despite discomfort, and teach us to trust where You are leading. Amen.

Prepare the Way

Preparations in advance make the way anywhere more easy to navigate. John the Baptist fulfilled his calling, as he faithfully went out into the Desert of Judea and preached repentance to prepare the hearts and minds of all who would hear him for the message that Jesus would soon deliver. “This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: ‘A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.” – (Matthew 3:3)

 

John helped prepare the way for Jesus. With Easter mere days away, how can we “prepare the way for the Lord” and “make straight paths for Him“? Our charge as followers of Christ is to do just that. Our lives ought to speak volumes, without a single word. Do people see a difference in how we live? If our conduct demonstrates kindness and grace, opportunities are opened to share what He has done for us, personally, and “paths may be made straight” as we can correct misconceptions that people may be holding in their hearts about their own capacity to come to Christ. May His good news be made known as grace is lovingly shown.

 

Prepare the way,

for our loving Lord;

make His heart known,

live in one accord.

Make straight the paths,

that lead unto Him;

offer His hope,

so His light shines in.

Give others grace,

as we have received;

Love drew us in,

when we first believed.

May that same love,

given lavishly;

draw others in,

so they too believe.

 

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You sent Your Son to make the way for us to come to know You. Thank You that He prepared the way and made the path straight for our minds and hearts to hold all hope in You. Thank You that we too, can be a part of preparing the way for others to come to know You. Forgive us for neglecting to do what You call us to, and for doing that which You ask us to not do. Thank You for Your forgiveness and grace, and may it compel us to depend on You more in all times and in each place. Help us to love and extend grace as You do unto us, and may many come to understand the eternal significance of Your death and resurrection this Easter. Let those who are looking, find a forever faith in You. Be glorified, Lord God. Amen.
