Confident in Hope

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. – (Hebrews 11:1, NIV)

Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see. – (Hebrews 11:1, ERV)

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead. – (Hebrews 11:1, TLB)

Faith is trusting in the unseen and holding hope in that which is not yet fully known. Marriage is an excellent example of faith in action. We may know our spouse-to-be quite well, yet rarely are they fully known as we enter into the very relationship that God has ordained. It takes two people who have confident hope in a lifetime together, as well as the commitment to trust in God and each other for all that lies ahead. When our hope is in God and the good things that He has in store for us, we find assurance in that which is yet to come. Though I know there is no “perfect” nor easy existence with one another, I have confident hope that when two people are pursuing God’s best for themselves and one another, that His grace will be the glue that holds hope steady in each heart. May we ever seek the Lord and have faith in who He is and all that He has in store for those who place their hope in Him.

Faith’s the foundation,

On which we can stand;

As we seek the Lord,

And all He commands.

For confident hope,

In all that’s unseen;

Exemplifies faith,

And what God’s grace means.

Though we cannot see,

All that lies ahead;

When we trust in God,

Faith rises and spreads.

The Lord is faithful,

In what we can’t see;

Choose confident hope,

Through trust and belief.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that we can have confident hope in that which we cannot yet see, for You are faithful to all who believe. Forgive us for doubting the good that You have in store for us, and help us to hold firmly in faith all that You are and all that lies ahead. Teach us to trust You more, in our relationships with You and one another. Show us how to love confidently and fearlessly, the way that You intended, so that many may be encouraged and find faith where it has been absent. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we hold confident hope in You and trust in that which is yet to come. Amen.

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord. – Psalm 31:24

What Power is This?

He made the earth by His power; He founded the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding. – (Jeremiah 51:15)

In the midst of sharing the message of destruction that the Lord had for the Babylonians, Jeremiah perfectly placed this poignant passage that recognizes the remarkable, in the Lord alone. Though the Babylonians were a powerful force, they would not stand under the opposition of He who made the earth. No people’s power can come close to His. A wisdom and understanding that stretched out the heavens, cannot be compared to the mere minds of men. When all seems chaotic and on a downward spiral around us, we can hold fast to He who is greater than all. Our hope is present in Christ, and our future forever secured in Him. May we go forth in His grace, trusting in His power, wisdom and understanding that are far greater than all else.

What power is this,IMG_0069

that created earth?

Who founded the world,

and ordained our birth.

The God of heaven,

Creator of Earth;

granter of new life,

breathed life at our birth.

In His great wisdom,

He stretched out the skies;

hand-crafted all things,

where true beauty lies.

The very same God,

Who spoke life in all;

will come dwell in us,

and answer our call.

Trust in His wisdom,

rely on His grace;

He is our true hope,

our peace in this place.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You made the earth by Your power, and You founded the world with Your wisdom. Thank You that You stretched out the heavens with Your understanding. Thank You that You who can do such mighty things, care for each of us, individually. Thank You that You know us intimately, and still love us with Your life. Forgive us for forgetting just how big and powerful You are in the midst of our messes, and help us to hold fast to You – the only One who is our hope, our comfort, and our peace – regardless of what is happening. Help us to trust You more, so that we move mightily on Your behalf. Let us love others as You love us, and may lives be changed and hearts turned toward You. Be glorified, Lord God, as we stand in awe of who You are and all that You have done. Amen.

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy. – Hebrews 4:16

This is the Day

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. – (Psalm 118:24)

Today, this hit home. This morning, 3:40 came painfully early. I was not so glad when my alarm went off. I was even less glad when I remembered that I would not be consuming coffee as I spent my time with the Lord, for soon after, I will be going on a long run, and the two just don’t mix… However, as I read the words of the 118th Psalm, I was reminded anew of just how great our God truly is. He made today, and I have life and breath to live it; for these reasons alone, I ought to rejoice and be glad. Whether the day begins painfully early, or at a leisurely pace, we have the gift of another day of life and drawing breath. He ordained this day as one of our days to live well, so we may as well put on our big kid shoes and get ready to run the race with endurance, rejoicing, simply because we are still in it. May we make the most of this day, rejoicing in all that He has for us, and giving Him the glory that’s due.

Today is the day,Shan Ragnar 2014

never to come again;

the Lord has made it,

and invited us in.

Let us choose rejoice,

to move forth in His joy;

for all that we have,

are His gifts to employ.

Thanks be to our God,

for this day and for life;

let’s make today count,

for it won’t be lived twice.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that this is the day that You have made, and that in and of itself is reason to rejoice. Thank You for love and life and breath and hope, and for all that You give unto us, through Your amazing grace. Forgive us for forgetting the blessings that each new day brings, and help us to hold fast to an attitude of praise, rejoicing in You, all of our days. May our glad hearts give glory unto You, and may many come to know You as their Savior and Lord, as they see You in us. Be exalted in our rejoicing each new day. Amen.
