Trusting the Treasures of Truth

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” – Luke 2:19 & 2:51.

Both Luke 2:19 and 2:51 contain nearly the same words.  Mary, the mother of Jesus, took note of all that was spoken about her Son.  She thought about every word, and treasured each truth in the hollows of her heart.

As a mother, I do treasure encouraging words spoken about my sons.  However, it behooves me to begin to imagine the belief that was being built up in Mary’s heart, as she was given wondrous words from both angels and strangers, who were delivering prophesies about Jesus.  Imagine attempting to hold in your heart the very idea that you son would also become your Savior?  What an overwhelming responsibility and a remarkable reality Mary held.

I can only attempt to imagine just how intentional she must have been in all that she said and did with and to her Son.

Though I am not raising the Savior of my soul, I do have two terrific boys that have the capacity to become mighty men of God.  I too, must treasure words spoken over each of them, and trust the leading and guiding of the Lord, by His Spirit, to raise them right.  All that I say and do must be intentional with the intent to raise them in the way that they are meant to go.  This only begins to happen when my heart is holding fast to Him.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that Your every word is worthy of being held and treasured in our hearts.  Thank You that Your every truth is meant to lead and guide us in the way we are called to go.  Teach us to hear, to trust, to treasure, and to obey, every word that You’ve written or bothered to say.  May our intentional obedience raise up righteous children who will move mightily on Your behalf, all the days of their lives.  Lead us in Your love, so that we too, will love well.  Amen.
