Slow Down and Celebrate

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him. – (Psalm 34:8, NIV)

Give the Lord a chance to show you how good He is. Great blessings belong to those who depend on Him! – (Psalm 34:8, ERV)

Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see – how good God is. Blessed are you who run to Him. – (Psalm 34:8, MSG)

Despite the turmoil that seems to be constantly swirling in our nation, the goodness of God is still evident all around us. No matter what we see or hear going on around us, we can take refuge in the Lord, for His love remains the same forever. For me, as I pause and take inventory of God’s goodness, gratitude rises for the family and friends whom He surrounds me with, and for the grace and kindness He provides, no matter the circumstances that we walk through. He is near and always good, and we can depend on Him to be our space of safety and peace. May we take time to reflect and recognize God’s goodness all around us, and choose to trust and run to Him.

Look all around you,

Choose taste and you’ll see;

The goodness of God,

His love’s given free.

Our safe place to run,

His arms full of love;

Safety, provision,

All good from above.

So, trust in the Lord,

Give all thanks to Him;

Celebrate the good,

That He’s placed within.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity to slow down and celebrate Your goodness, as we gather and enjoy the communities in which we’ve been placed. Thank You that You provide Your love and faithfulness wherever we go. Forgive us for not noticing the blessings that You have placed all around us. Teach us to observe Your goodness and love all around us. Show us how to love those around us best, so that we may make Your heart evident to all. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we slow down to taste and see how very good You are. Amen.

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the skies. – Psalm 36:5

Eternal Truth

All Your words are true; all Your righteous laws are eternal. – (Psalm 119:160, NIV)

Every word You say can be trusted. Your laws are fair and will last forever. – (Psalm 119:160, ERV)

Your words all add up to the sum total: Truth. Your righteous decisions are eternal. – (Psalm 119:160, MSG)

I am so thankful that God does not change. His word is true and what He says and He decides, last forever. There are so many things that surround us that are constantly changing – expectations, working conditions, parameters of jobs, growing children and puppies… The one thing that we can count on from the world, is change. However, from God, we can rely on His word, His truth and His promises remaining the same. For this, I am truly grateful. No matter what goes on around us, His love remains the same. God’s righteous laws for us boil down to loving Him and loving each other. He has a plan and a purpose for us all. As many of us look forward with anticipation and a bit of trepidation, may we remember that God is for us, and His love, help and presence forever remain.

Let’s look to the Lord,

For His words are true;

His laws good and just,

For His love shines through.

No matter the time,

Season, circumstance;

All that the Lord is,

Our reason to dance.

Dance in His presence,

Give glory to Him;

Unchanging His love,

Our hope, never dimmed.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that Your words are true and Your laws last forever. Thank You that You never change. Forgive us for somehow thinking that our ever-changing circumstances are somehow a reflection of You. Teach us to trust in the truth – that You are good and just and loving. Show us how to love those around us in ways that demonstrate the truth and trustworthiness of Your word. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we praise You for Your words that are eternal. Amen.

Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life. – Psalm 143:8

The Love That Remains

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – (Romans 8:38-39, NIV)

Yes, I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love – not death, life, angels, or ruling spirits. I am sure that nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us or nothing below us – nothing in the whole created world – will ever be able to separate us from the love God has shown us in Christ Jesus our Lord. – (Romans 8:38-39, ERV)

I’m absolutely convinced that nothing – nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable – absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. – (Romans 8:38-39, MSG)

These are incredibly powerful words of declaration, meant to remind and encourage each of us of just how vast the love of God is for us all. No matter where we go, no matter what we do, God loves us in spite of ourselves. We have the choice to receive or reject His love, but His love remains. The closest comparison I can come up with is the love I have for my children. My love for them is not situational, circumstantial, nor dependent on whether or not they receive and give love in return – I love them because they are mine. If we in our broken humanity have the capacity to love those whom He has gifted us to love, how much more does He who is love, love us in spite of ourselves? When we slow down and are ready to receive that which He offers freely, the depth and breadth of His love surrounds and overwhelms. May we each choose to receive that which God offers to each of us, as His love shall always remain.

There isn’t a thing, The Love That Remains

Created on earth;

That can take away,

Our infinite worth.

Because we are God’s,

Made by His own hand;

His love shall remain,

Forever will stand.

No height nor great depth,

For there is nothing;

That can take away,

The love that God brings.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that Your love for us is not dependent on our circumstances, surroundings or on what we do or do not do. Thank You that You love us because we are Yours. Thank You that Your love is ready to receive for all who choose to call on Your Name. Forgive us for rejecting what You freely offer and teach us to trust You more. Show us how to love others with the same tenacity that You have as You love each of us. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we praise You for Your love that never ends and seek to go and love likewise. Amen.

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. – 1 John 3:18
