Trust in His Hand

The works of His hands are faithful and just; all His precepts are trustworthy. – (Psalm 111:7, NIV)

Everything He does is good and fair. All His commands can be trusted. – (Psalm 111:7, ERV)

All His accomplishments are truth and justice; all His instructions are certain. – (Psalm 111:7, VOICE)

My husband, on our wedding day, happened to be holding both of our wedding bands in the hollow of his hand. As he looked closely at the two symbols of our love and commitment to one another, he noticed that mine fit easily in his. He snapped a photo of our rings in his hand, and at some point, showed me the picture he had taken. Because I am such a visual person, when I saw the image, my heart held fast; for just as my Viking held our rings in the hollow of his hand, so too does God hold us in His. In the same way that his ring surrounded and protected mine, likewise is his charge as a husband to surround and protect in love as we are held in the Lord’s hands. Throughout our entire relationship so far, the image matches how my heart has been held. May we ever rest in the Lord, as we are held in His hands, for He is faithful and just, and we can trust Him in all of our ways.

Loved and protected,

For all of our days;

We’re held in His hands,

Both now and always.

We can always trust,

For His ways are sure;

He holds us in love,

In Him, we’re secure.

So, ever seek God,

Who’s faithful and just;

All His ways are good,

And worthy of trust.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You give us tangible examples of how You love us and hold us in Your hands. Thank You that You are worthy of all of our trust. Forgive us for forgetting how great the hands are that hold us, as You who created all that exists are capable of holding us and leading us the ways in which we are meant to go. Teach us to trust You in all things and at all times; for You are so good. Show us how to love those around us in a way that envelops each in the goodness and faithfulness that Your love provides. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we trust all in Your hands. Amen.

The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in His hands. – John 3:35

Believe Instead of Striving

Jesus answered, “The work God wants you to do is this: to believe in the One He sent.” – (John 6:29, ERV)

God wants us to trust and believe in His one and only Son with all that we are, rather than complete some check list of accomplishments. When we are fully invested in faith in Christ, we are compelled to love and serve as He did. Our motivation for what we do, matters. If we are working to somehow try to earn God’s favor, we are toiling in vain. Anything God wants accomplished, He can do with a thought or a word. His ways are so much higher than our ways. However, if we believe in Him with our whole being, and love Him with all that we are, we cannot help but long to serve Him and do whatever He calls us to do. Acting in love is a far different scenario than obligation or fear. May we rise up and take inventory of what we are doing today. If our to do list is merely to appease or earn favor, let our hearts be changed so that we are motivated purely by His love, and a heart to serve Him and all whom He has created.

O Lord make my heart,Believe Instead of Striving

prepared to serve;

not to please others,

of love undeserved.

For what matters most,

is in Whom I trust;

hope everlasting,

in Christ is a must.

Show us the way, Lord,

to fully invest;

our hearts unto You,

in the way that’s best.

From that space of faith,

teach us to love well;

so others may know,

Your grace for themselves.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that what You want from us is our whole heart – our trust and our belief. Thank You that You sent Your Son to make Yourself tangible and approachable, to a world lost and desperately in need of Your grace. Thank You that You love us in spite of ourselves, and raise us up to who You call us to be, if we choose to seek and trust in You. Forgive us for our attempting to do enough or be enough, rather than investing all that we are in You. Teach us to trust in You, and allow You to do the transforming of us, so that we can go forth and be used by You to touch lives and transform communities. Lead us to love others as You so graciously love each of us. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we believe with all that we are, in the One You sent. Amen.

Shout aloud and sing for joy. – Isaiah 12:6

A Loss Unless it Leads to Life

But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. – (Philippians 3:7)

As Paul was speaking to the Philippians, he was pointing out that all of his accomplishments in life, when compared to knowing Christ, were “a loss“. Not one thing that we achieve will ever matter as much as our coming into a relationship with Christ. To know and love the Lord, leads to life everlasting; all else, fades away. Though doing well, and setting our hearts to do our best in every endeavor we take on can lead to good, our priority must first be invested in our walk with Christ. May we go forth this day with a proper perspective, as we determine where and how we invest our time, talents and energy.

What once was profit,Lose the Law Grab the Grace

is now but a loss;

because the Lord gave,

His life on the cross.

Our greatest riches,

the fortunes untold;

are held in our hope,

where heaven unfolds.

For nothing compares,

to the love of Christ;

there’s no greater love,

than His sacrifice.

He who was perfect,

took on all our sin;

so we’d be worthy,

He welcomes us in.

All we’ve accomplished,

is nothing compared;

to our Savior’s love,

the hope we now share.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that no matter where we have been or what we have or have not accomplished, nothing compares to our walk with You. Thank You that You are our hope and our help; our place of comfort and care. Thank You that as we lean into You, our priorities align with Yours. Forgive us for setting our sights on accomplishing, rather than on You who strengthens and empowers us to do all things through You. Teach us to trust You more, so that we will have our hearts and minds fixed on You first, so that we will better know and understand what You are calling us to do, and what You are not. Lead us to love others in such a way, that they may see the hope that is held forever in You. May many come into a saving relationship with You, Lord. Be exalted O God, as we consider anything that is not of You a loss, and all that is of You and for You – a great gain. Amen.

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy. – Hebrews 4:16
