Unending Faithfulness

Who is like You, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and Your faithfulness surrounds You. – (Psalm 89:8, NIV)

Lord God All-Powerful, there is no one like You. You are strong, Lord, and always faithful. – (Psalm 89:8, ERV)

O Eternal God, Commander of heaven’s armies, who is mighty like You? You are completely faithful; that’s why we trust You. – (Psalm 89:8, VOICE)

It is strange how we can be moving along through our day, in an ordinary way, when out of the blue, something takes place to set us off course. Yesterday, what we thought would be our day’s plan, changed. My husband and I had a meeting in the morning, and when we returned home, we went outside to set up a silt fence along the outside of our existing fence on the hill of our lot to prepare for the upcoming construction. Now a silt fence is lightweight and easy to move, so there was nothing strenuous about the task we were undertaking. That being said, when my love ducked down under a branch, a sudden and immediate look of pain passed across his face. Somehow, the movement had thrown his back out, and he was in some pain. Being the Viking that he is, he figured he could power through it if he stretched a bit and took some Alleave. On our agenda next, was an errand up in Monroe, (typically a 90-minute drive) so, off we went. He was uncomfortable for a time, but the further up the road, the more apparent the pain was becoming. Upon our arrival, Mark could not stand up straight, and he was in agony. Thankfully, Mark remembered that he had a TENS unit in his car for the ride home, as I do not think he would have managed the drive without it. Once home, he claimed he was better than he had been, and that I ought to go ahead and at least stop by my dear friend’s fundraising event that he and I had planned on attending. After less than an hour away, I received a text from him stating that he wanted me to go ahead and contact my chiropractor friend to see if he could get in the next day. That alone let me know that it was worse again, as him suggesting treatment sooner than Monday meant significant pain. I was able to reach her and communicate what was going on. She had helpful suggestions for the immediate, and was willing to be at the office this morning to see him. After an evening of alternating ice and heat, stretching, and every attempt possible to get comfortable, the pain reached the point of unbearable. So, off to the ER we went. Thankfully, after the typical time of waiting to be triaged and seen, relief was provided with a potent shot of pain medication, and I had a new man in my care. He will need to follow up on Monday, but I cannot help but see God’s faithfulness, even in this. God provided knowledgeable people to help and bring relief to Mark’s pain, and perhaps God was protecting us from something by changing our plans last evening. We may never know, but we do know that God is good and that He uses all things for good, even the things that don’t feel good as they are taking place. May we ever trust in the Lord and His faithfulness and strength; for His plans for us are always good.

Yesterday was extraordinarily significant for mom, as it was the first time that she went on an outing without her wheelchair! Though she does not utilize her wheelchair during the day at home, she has stuck to remaining in the chair when out in public, as it has provided a peace of mind and familiarity when in unfamiliar spaces. Last evening, however, mom went out with Megan and Scott to one of their favorite places in Corvallis. It is a great independently owned restaurant and bar, called Four Spirits Distillery. My sister sent me a picture of mom walking along the sidewalk to the entrance with her walker on her own. Both Mark and I could not stop smiling! We had the pleasure of dining there with mom last weekend, so we could imagine each step and what she was walking into. The staff are kind and attentive, and were likely very quick to notice and encourage mom on her progress. God’s strength and faithfulness are certainly continuing to be made evident as mom keeps moving forward on this journey to recovery with the love and nudging of my sister and family.

In good times and bad,

Happy Viking once the pain relief kicked in. ❤

The Lord God is near;

Provides faithfully,

And calms all our fears.

When struggles do come,

His strength He provides;

His heart full of love,

And arms open wide.

We need only seek,

To see that we’ll find;

The strength of the Lord,

Faithful, He provides.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unending faithfulness as You provide the strength that we need when it is needed. Thank You that You are loving and kind, and that You have good for us in mind. Forgive us for our fears and doubts when struggles come our way. Teach us to trust You through every challenge that we face, for Your strength is more than enough in our weakness. Show us how to love those around us in ways that offer strength and hope and peace. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we are thankful for Your mighty hand that provides strength, as You are faithful forever. Amen.
