Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. – (2 Corinthians 3:5)

Capability and fear are foes. We are all created and equipped to do far more than we realize, yet fear so often hinders us. When we place our trust in Him, in spite of our fears, we see our Source supply what is needed to navigate the new. Yesterday, as a team, we went cave tubing. To most, that may sound like a grand adventure to try. To me, a claustrophobic, the idea was a bit terrifying. I kept my fears fairly quiet and kept moving forward with my friends, but as we descended deeper and deeper into the depths of the dark and narrowing cave, there was some serious prayer and dependence on God to get me through without completely freaking out. By His grace, I was actually able to relax and enjoy the ride, as we floated along in our tubes, looking at limestone and stalagmite formations with bats swooping high overhead. Incredibly, I was even able to enjoy swimming in the deep area at the end of the cave before we turned to hike back out. On my own, I was not able, yet with Him, the journey was enjoyable beyond what I would have hoped or imagined. May we ever remember that our competence comes from Him, as He is our Source and Supply.

All that we now have,

 And ever shall be;

Is thanks to the Lord,

Who sets us all free.

As we choose depend,

On Him for our strength;

We soon discover,

His hand’s endless length.

So seek Him for all,

Competent in Him;

For He is our Source,

Our Light from within.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that our competence comes from You. Thank You that You do far more than we could ever hope or imagine when we place our trust in You. Forgive us for attempting to go in our own strength rather than Yours. Teach us to seek You first in all things. Show us how to love and encourage those around us in a way that points them to You. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we find our competence in You for all that we do. Amen.
