Delight in Giving

God loves it when the giver delights in the giving. – (2 Corinthians 9:7, The Message)

I imagine that we experience a fraction of His delight as we give, for there is much joy in giving a gift of time, experience or resource to those who appreciate them. Seeing the delight on faces before us is a gift given back to us, when we give. The anticipation as I search for, create or plan particular gifts for those whom I love, brings me great delight, as I find joy in knowing that the recipient will be blessed. There is also a certain thrill in the anonymous giving, although we know not the reaction, we can trust that God will use our offering to bless the recipient as He sees fit. Imagine how God feels toward us as He both blesses us, and sees us choose to bless others. If we as broken humans find delight in giving, how much more does God love what He sees when we offer the gift of ourselves to another? May we not lose sight of the real reason for this most blessed season, and choose to delight in the giving of ourselves – our time, our talent and our resources to give our very best to those around us.

Let our hearts delight,The Holiday of Hope

in giving good gifts;

not just tangible,

but love that will lift.

Lift hearts from despair,

from dark places lost;

our time and talent,

are of little cost.

May we choose to give,

as God has given;

in love and in grace,

all sin, forgiven.

Help us to reach out,

and give as You do;

so many may know,

the light of Your truth.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You delight in giving us good gifts, and in the same way, You love when we delight in giving. Thank You that You provide more than enough for us to give of ourselves; be it our time, talent or resources. Forgive us for being too busy to give where we ought to, and help us to prioritize our time and resources in a way that blesses many and is pleasing unto You. Teach us to trust You more, so that we would not be concerned about there being enough of anything, but rather to give wherever You call us to give. Show us how to love and bless those around us in a tangible way, so that they may feel that they are known and loved. May many come into a lasting relationship with You. Be glorified O God, as we delight in giving, just as You have so lavishly given unto us. Amen.
