Boast in the Beloved

This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. – (Jeremiah 9:23-24)

Though we often value wisdom, strength, riches and kindness in ourselves and others, they are nothing if they are not rooted and established in Christ. God is exhorting us to focus our energy and attention on knowing and understanding Him. As we do, kindness, justice and righteousness will flow from us, and He will delight in us. Any wisdom, strength, riches or kindness that we have, are gifts given from the Lord. Our only boast ought to be of Him and how great He truly is. Let us lift our hearts and hands in thanksgiving for who He is unto us.

Wisdom and strength,A House of Hope

and riches galore;

all that man has,

are gifts from the Lord.

No one should boast,

in gifts of delight;

but boast in He,

Who sets all wrongs right.

As we invest,

in Christ our true King;

kindness pours out,

equipped offerings.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that we may boast in You. Thank You that You exercise kindness, justice and righteousness on the earth, for those in whom You delight. Thank You that You delight in Your children. Thank You that when we choose to place our trust in You, we are adopted as Your sons and daughters forever. Forgive us for thinking too much of ourselves or others for gifts that You have given. Help us to recognize the strengths as gifts, and give You glory for them. May we use all that You have given us for Your glory, and may many come to know You personally, as we go forth in loving obedience to all that You ask. Be glorified, O God, as we seek to understand and know You more today. Amen.

  1. Shannon you simply amaze me how you manage to do all you do. Are you working fulltime? You run in events and care for your family as well as daily coming up with this really encouraging and inspired stuff? I am stretched to the limit and my time with God is totally compromised so my well begins to run dry and I find myself doing it all in my own strength. Exercise also takes a back seat as not sure where to fit it all in and it takes effort. AND our garden is taking over due to neglect. Hehe. I’d love a bit of your energy!

    • Hi Toni,
      Thanks so much for your sweet encouragement! I am working full time as a middle school teacher. This will be my 18th year. I am an early riser, and God is so faithful to meet me each morning. I provide the willing heart and He meets me with the words that flow, and the energy necessary to complete all that I am called to do each day. The running is my sanity, as I have a treasured friend from church that I run with. 😉 Blessings to you!
      Love, Shannon ❤
