Able to Always

God is Love.

This morning, this is the meditation of my heart, as I allow His love to penetrate the places that I struggle to receive.

My reading this morning had me again in I Corinthians 13, and the line that stood out most boldly before me was verse seven:  “Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

For those of you who have been following for some time, you are familiar with my dear friend, Anne’s story. (For those who are not, she is fighting bone cancer and just went through radiation for brain tumors)  She is in the hospital right now.  We usually talk on the phone often, but I had been unable to reach her for two days.  In desperation and concern, I contacted a mutual friend and found out that she was indeed in the hospital.  Fortunately, my mind is much more at ease after speaking with her personally on the phone at 4:15 this morning. 🙂

God protected Anne and provided her safe transportation to the hospital, as she is currently not allowed to drive.  She trusts that He has a plan and a purpose for this current kidney crisis, prior to the healing that we are all trusting for in Him.  Despite the complications, her hope and trust remain true to the Great Physician, as He provides all that Anne needs so that she can continue to persevere.

When darkness, foreboding,

dares to try enter in.

When waves keep on pounding,

make too tired to swim.

Place your trust in the Lord,

His love always protects.

Never out of His reach,

where His Light won’t effect.

Despite what our eyes see,

our hearts should trust.

Faith without any love,

returns void to the dust.

With love there’s always hope.

Through His eyes we shall see,

it’s not about right now,

but all eternity.

Love always perseveres.

Love keeps on keeping on.

When our supply is empty,

God’s faithful love is strong.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You always protect, You are always trustworthy, that we may always place our hope in You.  Thank You that You alone always supply the strength that we need to persevere.  Thank You that not only are You Love, but that You love us without reservation or hesitation.  You love us even unto death on a cross.  Forgive us for not allowing that love to come into our places of pain, and help us to receive all that You have for us.  Lord Jesus, please bring Your healing to those who are in need.  We especially lift up Anne to You right now.  Please restore her kidney function to 100%, and remove every cancerous cell from her body.  May Your peace surround her and Your strength continue to be her supply.  Thank You that despite our circumstances, You are always good, and You are always loving toward us, Your children.  Teach us to trust Your tender touch and receive all that You have for each of us.  May we be used to bring the blessings of Your lavish love on those who need to receive it today, and may they recognize it is You in us that provides the capacity to care.  May the lost be led to You forevermore.  Amen.

  1. You and Anne are in my prayers, praying God’s love finds your heart at all depths and brings comfort. I Pray a Spiritual healing.

  2. I am praying for your friend, Anne, today–such a hard road, but I know the Lord goes before her, and at the same time with her, every step. Praying for you as well–it’s hard on us too, when our friends and loved ones are suffering. God bless you–love, sis Caddo

  3. Shannon,
I am sorry about your friend, Anne. I prayed the prayer you prayed for her. What an awesome God we have that we can call on Him to heal us and those we love. Thank you for sharing your heart in this devotional today. I love to read what God lays on your heart. God bless.
