“It (love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” – I Corinthians 13:7
In our own strength, we cannot even begin to fathom always for anything. It is only as we grow in His grace, that we can begin to imagine what that would be like. God Himself is love, and He always… He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He alone, always.
He is our protector and strong tower, our mighty fortress who will hide us in the shadow of His wings. God is always worthy of our trust, because He is for us and not against us. He is hope, for He provides the promise of the place He has prepared for us in His presence forever. God never stops being God. Jesus pressed on through the trials and the pain, to provide the way for us to enter relationship, and ultimately, eternity, with Him.
As a mom, I have gained a glimpse of what God must go through to protect His people. For my boys, from the moment I was aware of their conception, I have done, and will do everything possible in my power to protect them and keep them safe from all that might try to come against them. I can only begin to fathom the kind of fierce and protective passion that our Papa has for us, as His beloved children.
The always trusts, is a work in progress. I trust, I doubt, I learn and I grow. Each time I gain a deeper understanding of just how trustworthy He is. Humans are flawed and broken, but He is not. He alone is ALWAYS worthy of our trust.
Hope is the very thing that we have to hold onto this side of heaven. There are no promises for a pain-free path. In fact, we will surely face trials in this life, however, He has promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us, granting us hope from now until heaven with Him.
Perseverance comes as we are provided practice to press on. If we never had trials, we would not grow and gain the gumption necessary, given by God’s grace, to persevere.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are love. Thank You that Your love is perfect and presents us with a picture of what love really is. Forgive us for our failures, where we have not loved as You have loved us. Teach us to trust in Your protection so that we might hold hope and persevere. Lead us to love like You, with a protective, trusting, hopeful and persistent love for all whom we encounter. May people see You reflected in our love. Amen.
