Meditate on What Matters

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” – Colossians 3:2

Our minds are meant to meditate on God and His ways, rather than on the wicked ways of the world.

Where our heart dwells, determines what will be displayed as we walk out our days, both before God and our brethren.  When our eyes, hearts and minds hold onto Him and His ways, there is a distinct difference that separates us from our sinful selves.  We are empowered and equipped to walk upright before Him, and shine His light brightly before everyone we encounter.

However, when our focus falters and we allow ourselves to get sucked into sin, or immerse ourselves into environments of darkness, our resolve to remain in our Redeemer becomes ruined.  Though we are in the world, we need not be of the world.

Our gaze, our focus, our very foundation is formed based on where we make our mind dwell.  When my morning begins before my Beloved, even my breathing reminds me of the blessings beheld in each brand new day.  If my day is chaotic, and I bypass beginning my day with my heart and mind before Him, it seems it is easier to succumb to the ways of the world.  Standing in the midst of unkind utterings, rather than either speaking out to stop it, or step away, I seem stuck.  I need Him – His thoughts, His ways, in the forefront of mind to stand firm and be a light before men (and women).

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the very One above on whom we are to focus our minds, as we move deeper in our faith in You.  Thank You that as we do, we find freedom from fruitless things, and are better able to walk away from wickedness, and wield the weapons of faith.  Forgive us for allowing our eyes, ears and hearts to behold anything other than that which is good and pleasing to You.  Keep us from becoming ensnared in earthly things, and allow our hearts and minds to hold only that which encompasses eternal value.  May our faithful obedience lead the lost to Your loving light.  Amen.

  1. Hi Shannon! Yesterday was a rough one–the comparisons between “here”, and where we’re going were so stark that I just wanted out, longed to go Home. I was so blessed when one of our sisters called me long-distance–that short, loving visit was just what I needed to feel less alone in a miserable world. These times are rare for me now, so it was yet another opportunity to thank God for how far He’s brought me. God bless you abundantly this Lord’s day–love, sis Caddo Have a wonderful week!

    • Dear Caddo, I am so grateful that God knew your need and delivered just the thing to bless your heart in the barren space! He is so good! Blessings for a week abundant in knowing His nearness, with loneliness far from you! ❤ Shannon

  2. An honouring, awakening reminder to keep our eyes on Jesus! Blessings, Sue

  3. This is in agreement with a lesson I have been speaking to my daughter about– I couldn’t have said it better. Thank you, Denise

      • Thank you! I appreciate that. I can’t wait to share your post in the morn with my daughter! So kind- Denise
