Ten men weary

separate souls;

ten men dreary

bore leprous holes.

These outcasts

must have overheard,

of Jesus’ power,

His healing word.

As He neared

they boldly called out,

“Have pity on us,”
He heard them shout.

When He saw them,

He kindly implored,

“Go show the priests,”
and they were all restored.

Though ten were healed,

there was only one,

who returned and gave

praise unto the Son.

With shouts of thanks

he did proclaim,

the gracious gift given,

in Jesus’ Name.

When Jesus asked,

“Were not all ten made clean?”

Yet only the foreigner returned

and learned what it would really mean.

For Jesus told Him

what they all should tell,

that their faithful trust

is what made them well.

(response to Luke 17:11-19)

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You come close when we call, even when our heart is a mess. Thank You that Your healing is not dependant on our understanding, nor on our getting it right. Forgive us for not asking and for not trusting. Teach us to trust, and grow our faith. Father, thank You that even faith the size of a mustard seed, is enough, as it is alive and growing and active. Though it begins hidden and unseen, it grows into something mighty that can help provide a place of rest for the birds of the air and shade for those who pass by. May our faith grow like that. Grant each of us grateful hearts, so that we recognize and remember all of the remarkable things that You do in our lives, and more importantly, so that we give all glory to You, because You are God. Use us as Your vessels to pour out Your love and grace on those who need it most. May many come to know You as faithful Father and the Prince of Peace. Amen.
